Nagging question.

Since partial members cannot see all DB entries and if they visit a site that is restricted in the DB they should not use its real name or whatever.

((i read that on the forum somewhere *puts on sunscreen dons shiny flame retardant suit))

How in the hell are we supposed to know if it is restricted and not to use its real name?

It doesn't matter if its in the DB or not. If its posted in a public thread, using the real name and showing things in pictures that can give away its location or clues as to where it may be is a big no-no.

When I first became a member, I posted pictures of a place I found (Or thought I found) and didn't realize that I had actually named the pictures after the place. (Silly me.) So yeah, I learned the hard way. (Other members bashing me and telling me how stupid of a move that was) Oh well, live and learn I suppose.

Locations are not on contract to deal exclusively with UER. Get after it.
Good practice to hide the name, but only because you want to cloak it and not have some goofball find it because of you.

Now get after it, go out there and have fun and forget about the intenet and UER and whatever other goofball forums there are.

Tell some good stories and fuck the LDB. Its a load of fun for commentary but it is by no means the be all end all dictionary of locations.

Do what interests you and remember that because you haven't wasted your time on this place DOESN'T make you a novice. Most of the people here are talkers, and the rest do stuff that anyone could do.

Summary, there is no such thing as a "Rookie" aside from common sense internet forum shit.

Get after it.

you could spell it backwards, or drop general hints if you feel so inclined. But then that is part of the reason why this place seems to have mostly talkers. I expect to be posing some time this week despite the fact I can't seem to get ahold of a oxygen tank. I will just get a canary.

I also have a question regarding this - when is it necessary to hide a name?

The best thing to do would be to call any location your not sure of 'spunkercock asylum' or 'spunkercock factory' etc etc

This lets everyone know it's a wildcard.

Chris...

We all had ostriches. My dad had an ostrich farm! I remember one day someone came in and said the high altitude bombing of Kosovo had been a limited success, so we all went out and celebrated… by killing an ostrich and boiling it in kiwi fruit.

I like that idea myself.

I'd probably search my brain for something and make something up.

It's not necessary, but most of us just consider it a good idea for any location.

I've been thinking about this... and this whole anonymity issue, and I feel that at times it is really unneccessary. I've been thinking about how easy it is to track me down, since I posted my real name on several places on the net after getting fed up with many years of hiding behind nicknames and such, and I'd say I don't feel I've done anything illegal so far, and if I did and it turns out then I face the consequences...

For using fake names to hide locations from vandals / etc browsing these sites, well... Maybe its useful, but other than that, I'd love to know what and where the place is, to know a little about its history and such... I write a blog on my explorations and I always try to find out some history for the place, which makes it quite necessary to post real names for the locations.

But things like entry points and such I wouldn't post, because if some site owners ever get here for whatever reason and find pics posted about their property and how to enter them... well... screwed.
