| | Nobel CIL & Avro sites- first post with pics < on 8/28/2007 1:01 AM >
| | | Below are pictures of an area rich with history dating back from WWI when a number of companies set up facilities to make and export dynamite to support the war effort. Later on, additional facilities were added to test the after-burner Iroquois engines at various atmospheric pressure. The goal was to use these engines in the Avro Arrows... we all know what happened there. When Canadian Industries Limited (CIL- yeah, more than just paint!) packed up their explosives shop in 1982, nearly everything was demolished. For some reason, 2 shipping-receiving buildings remain- perhaps to aid with the ongoing environmental clean up. Avro test facilties
Inside facility #2
smaller test building #1
Shipping-receiving
inside- didn't smell febreeze fresh...
Any ideas?

There are many many many other foundations around the properties that can be mated with historic photos. I'll try to post some when I get time.

Since I'm a basic user [rolling eyes] I cannot see the thread or the location in the DB, but here are some photo's when AOTU visited the BIL/Orenda Engine Test Facility location just off HWY-69 in May 2007. http://www.aotu.ca...t/orendaplant.html
