| | Im new here and would like some help and also wanted to introduce myself < on 11/24/2007 12:49 PM >
| | | Hi I just wanted to say hello, Im new to this board, Im from Union county NJ. Hopefully I can get a chance to bump into some of you one of these days at one of these places. I was wondering if any of you could point me in the direction of some really cool condo developments that are brand new, or some new offices or shopping malls. I really love going to explore and nothing gives me more of a rush than visiting locations where you pull up and realize that the cool old abandoned place isnt there anymore, but theres a shiny new Home Depot or Target there instead or a field of new snap together condos. I love the way the light cascades off the vinyl siding, and theres such an earthy feel to preformed concrete and faux brick! I actually had my first real UE experience when I hit the motherload a few weeks ago when I was out in Redhook Brooklyn and pulled up to the new IKEA the size of Texas right on the waterfront. I must have spent hours in there looking at all the peeling paint and old equipment, swedish modular furniture ages so well, especially in a creepy place like that. And watch out for ticks in the freshly paved parking lot, and if the security comes by, make sure youre wearing blue, so you can just lean up against the wall and blend right in. In all seriousness, just wanted to say hi, and open myself up for new guy flames and all that. If anyone is near me and would like to meet up and get chased or arrested together let me know. I have a bunch of my photos on my website. www.garibaldiphoto.com

| | | Dude, you have a lot of very sweet shots on your site. Killer stuff. The only thing I didn't think worked was the HDR. There was one, or two decent ones. I'd stick to your overall style. Your model shots are great.

| | | hey thanks, Im glad you liked my stuff. Which HDR image are you referring to? The only one that I did sort of an HDR merge on was the image of the ropes with the crazy sky behind it, and that was from the same RAW file. Thats the only one thats like that up there. I shoot 99.9% handheld, my tripods too bulky most of the time so I rarely bring it. Everything else is just some dodging and burning etc. Im a commercial photographer so I am always down to shoot, and I get off on this great old places. The model shots are actually from fashion shoots Ive done. I did a few in some UE spots, none I think that anyone up here knows, maybe they do. but I must tell you, going in these places alone is one thing, but going in with a flamboyantly gay hair and makeup team, a blonde intern, and a 6ft Dutch model from a major agency in Manhattan takes on a whole new meaning of "OK guys, if you hear something, just follow my lead and stay close" actually the one of the girl leaning up against the fabric (ahem asbestos) door, we got snagged by a guy taking reading for the EPA on that site and booted, and the one of the shot looking down from above, well that stairwell had great light, some bent spoons, crack vials, and there was some guy who poked his head out of the third floor window as we walked out of the place and back across the field. He must have been freaking out, since we were shooting on the second floor of the place for 45 minutes and Im directing this model to give me more attitude and work the wall with the peeling leaded paint more dramatically, the whole while some poor guys one floor up listening to all this and probably just trying to shoot up. My makeup artist kept tapping me and telling me he felt like we were being watched. Ha, we were! Anyway, thanks for the welcome and hope to provide useful additions to the board!

| | | Great stuff! Great use of color and contrast. It's funny that now the whole HDR thing is out if you have high contrast and rich color everyone assumes it's HDR. 106 reminds me alot of David Hamilton from way back when.

| | | Thanks so much, I use a 8X10 large format view camera, with a solid oak tripod, I love the mobility is lends me, plus it fits in my pocket. Just kidding, I shoot with Canon 5D or a 1DS and a few good fast zooms and a couple of fast primes. dats it nutin too complicated. years ago Before I really got into doing this for a living, I used to use an old Nikon coolpix 990, I have been toying with the idea of picking up a little point and shoot just so I dont have to lug around the brick of a camera bag that makes running and hopping fences interesting.
