Skeletal Remains Found Inside Abandoned Building in Kinderhook

I just saw this on my local news so I figured id post this up from thier website.

"A routine inspection turned into a police investigation on Friday when two state preservation society employees stumbled on a skeleton in the basement of an old house.

The inspectors were checking out an abandoned building in Kinderhook when they went downstairs and made the disturbing find.

The Columbia County Sheriff’s tell us the house is in such rough shape his investigators can’t go in until engineers can secure the building.

We’re told the building which is located on the corner of Edsel Avenue and County Route 21 was built in the 1800’s and has been unoccupied for several years."

if it's skeletal remains, who knows how long they've been there? could be a hundred years. still bizarre though.

I just did a search and found more updates about this.. Turns out the remains are of a missing woman from boston that they found in the basement.

here is the link to the thread that I found in a forum for Assistance For Families of the Missing.

http://www.project...topic=290.msg12616

Scroll down about halfway to read all the articles that people posted about this find.

I thought this part from one of the articles on there was pretty interesting..

"The search covered land and water. And, Knott says, officers told him they even searched this house.

"But because of the terrible condition of the house and it being full of junk they did not go into the basement," Knott said. "Perhaps they didn't even find the basement door; it was a little difficult for us to find it."

The Columbia County sheriff says to his knowledge the house wasn't searched at all during Karnilova's disappearance. Now, Knott thinks of her family, and how close these remains came to being destroyed and lost forever."

Also here is an article that confirms that this is the missing boston woman..

"KINDERHOOK, N.Y. (AP) - Police have confirmed that human remains found in an abandoned house in Columbia County are those of a 59-year-old Boston woman who disappeared year.5 ago.

Investigators say the skeleton found Friday in the basement of a dilapidated 19th-century house in Kinderhook is that of Kristina Karnilova. The body was discovered after a neighbor who was interested in buying the house went in to inspect it.

Columbia County Sheriff's deputies say the cause of death is undetermined but homicide has been ruled out and foul play is not suspected.

Sheriff David Harrison says everyone involved in the case believes it was suicide.

Deputies said Karnilova had been under the care of a mental health counselor before her disappearance and she had talked of taking her life."

that's weird... this website you linked to is from Burlington Vermont, a station that most people watch here.
Kinderhook is 140 miles from here... 200 from Burlington.

If you were going to off yourself, would you break into a ratty old abandoned house, shuffle your way into a shitty, creepy, cluttered basement and do it? That just struck me as overkill maybe?

Who knows, it did say that she was under the care of a mental health counselor before her disappearance, so maybe she just lost her mind and maybe she hoped that she would have never been found.. Which was almost the case as it said that the building was almost going to be demo'ed. Though I dont know why youd go from boston to kinderhook to commit suicide (if that is the case, which it seems like it is).

Strange shit happens though..

And I didnt even know that site I linked from was in vermont, lol I just copied and pasted that report from the first link in my last post.
