| | | Molson Brewery - Barrie < on 1/13/2008 3:58 PM >
| | | The Molson Brewery in Barrie has been demolished. As such it's time for some picture action. Noticed when driving back from a party on New Years in Barrie that ProGreen Demolition had signs posted all over the side of the building. Unfortunately didn't manage to make it back for one last return trip before the place got flattened. The following is a selection of various pictures taken on a couple expeditions out there during late fall and late last summer:
If someone wants to add these to a location that may or may not exist which I'm unable to see please go ahead. More great pictures from Molson are available for viewing at http://z0ng.org

| | | Hey, is this the brewery that was being used as a grow op, or is that a different one?

This is the one! One of those pics has a bunch of plastic planters and soil in the bottom of one of the large fermentation tanks. Looks like the police weren't too concerned with removing all of the materials found. One of the fermentation tanks next to the one I found with all the pots/soil in it had some 6-step growing todo list so it seemed written on it in chalk (there is a pic of it, although its in the z0ng.org gallery and not up on here).

| | | dropped by last night, after a visit to another non-ue location.
the rest you will find here with a little bit of commentary. ill be adding them to the db as well at some point. giving this some thought. i can see why the city wants to be rid of the plant so quickly. there got to be quite the enigma attached to "canadas biggest pot bust" for the city administration. as i said to Syn and z0ng a week or so ago, i did feel a bit like i was "visiting a dying friend". i wasnt the only one up there either. how was the walk across the mud plain from the south? ;) [last edit 1/14/2008 7:03 PM by z0th - edited 1 times]

| | | I vaguely (emphasis on vaguely) recall many a Sunday hittin' the drive-thru at the Barrie Molson plant back in the day (long before it was a grow-op, heh). Just pop the trunk and they loaded the box of wobbly pop for ya'. Didn't even have to get out of the car.
You can always tell when you're watching Canadian television - the actors in the show are the same ones doing the commercials. |

| | | Great photos. I was always a little put off by this site, because whenever I would head up or down the 400, there would seem to be a dozen vehicles parked out front. Wonder if they were the demolition company or whatnot, because there doesn't appear to be any in your pics! (the top right photo is where I kept seeing them).

It was likely those were the vehicles of the employees of Aurora Beverages or whatever the name of the company that was active there still was. Every time I went there we'd check that parking lot after making our way in and there was always a car or two. They seemed to never stick around very long though so on the last trip we waited for them to leave then explored the north end of the building.

| | | I'm going to miss this place. I can't remember how many times I would just take off and sit on the roof for hours and hours, just thinking about anything and everything. Now its gone, and I feel like I've lost a good friend. Molsons you will be missed.
We are going to inherit the earth . There is not the slightest doubt about that. The bourgeoisie may blast and burn its own world before it finally leaves the stage of history. We Are not afraid of ruins. We who ploughed the prairies and built the cities can build again, only better next time. We carry a new world, here in our hearts. That world is growing this minute. |
