|  | | | I recently checked out the rest stop on Highway 401 in Mississauga (just by Winston Churchill Blvd) which closed in September 2006. I couldn't find it in the DB here, but I suspect that is because I'm not a full member. I am fairly new to UE, but the activity has interested me for a number of years, so I decided to check out this neat place recently right near my backyard the other month.
If you're in the area, I'd highly recommend you check it out! Access is very easy due to the vandalism of others, and don't be scared by the parked Crown Victoria security car. It's been sitting there for a couple months now, unattended.
If anyone is interested, I can post a few pics - my friend did some great HDR edits.

| | | | I'm glad to hear that security is gone. I noticed that the car parked there has not moved. When I tried to visit this location back in the Summer, security was there and told me that I was trespassing. I'll have to make a return trip. I'd like to see your pics.

| | | | Just a quick update: Was returning home at 0430 this morning and noticed a vehicle inside the location, by the gas station. Looks like security is back! They were in a blue Ford minivan, and it's the first time I've seen any action for a long while.
During my first visit after Christmas, I noticed some 'security logs' in the abandoned security car (doors were unlocked - bizarre?) with dates of December 1st and December 7th, but none after that). Will post any updates if I see more vehicles around the property.

| | | | There's a 401 rest stop east of Toronto that certainly looks as though it should be abandoned by now but is not. It's on 401 EB, just east of the Durham/Northumberland border. The place is rotting right before your eyes. There's a Wendy's, a Mr Sub and something else there in addition to the gas station. It's in stark contrast to the nifty new modern rest stop on 401 WB at roughly Brownsville RD (in between Newcastle and Newtonville). It's a pretty nice place to stop and, er, rest.

was there last night, doesnt look like much security is there. I did see the white security car, as well as the minivan, but i was able to get in and out without really having to be all that stelth. Im not sure whats up with the Van but it wasnt really all that hard

I remember Bus trips from the University of Waterloo not being able to get past that stop en route to the clubs in Toronto for the number of people who needed to stop for a washroom break from drinking on the bus!!!

| | | | I actually got in there from the last snow storm in Feb 2008. Faked a break down just made one of the battery connectors loose. I was driving my old 1977 Mercury Cougar 4-door white beast at that time and stopped just in front of the barrier on the 401(where you would normally get off to get in the station when it was still in operation). Walked right in actually, there was a door busted. Anyways, I always wondered how it looked like now. I used to visit that place alot. If I remember correctly it had a Mr.Subs, New York Fries, and a Harvey, and Tims. It had a small little corner with some out of date arcade games like StarWars pinball, one of those racing games, and deer hunter. It also had an Nicolby's, now empty when I visited its shell. But all of the items where overpriced tourist gifts. Upstairs I remember was wifi connected, so if you had a laptop with wifi, you could connect to the internet, I wondered if it was still on. Then out of the blue a voice yelled at me and told me to stay where I was. There I stood, and came this security gaurd that was fat, and shorter than I was. He asked what I was doing here. I told him that my car broke down, and was mearly trying to look for a phone. He didnt believe me till I pointed my car parked in front of the barrier with my hood up and hazzards flashing. He bought it, and lent me his cell phone, which I called CAA. Of course I left before they came.
