No matter what the design, the purpose remains constant; to blend into ones environment and avoid unwanted attention. Most camo has been designed with the military or hunters in mind. Camo of these kinds, work on the principles of blending colors to match your background and disrupt the human shape. It is important to note that camo suitable for one terrain can be as useful as wearing a bullseye if worn in disimilar terrain. Most typical military designs are simply splotches of various colors. The newer designs, marketed towards hunters, is much more detailed and realistic looking (resembling real outdoor settings). Some urban explorers will utilize camo when attempting infiltrations into secure sites where security is present and there is ample foliage/cover to make proper use of the camo to remain undetected. A related form of camouflage is to dress in whatever is appropriate for where you are going (examples: fancy clothes at a nice hotel, hard hat and grubby work clothes at a construction site, etc). This allows you to appear as if you belong there and attract little attention to yourself.
