|  | | | Well, every time I sit down to work on the MoleNet site, I get about 50% of the remaining work done. Hmmm... let's see... counting all the times I've sat down recently... I must be about 99.9999999% done 
Anyway, I'll spare you all the verbose history of our group (The MoleNet) and cut right to the chase: The MoleNet is a now-defuct group of UE'ers who infiltrated the Washington State University steam tunnels countless times between 1994 and 1997 when most of the group graduated. The photos, map, and video were just burning holes in my bookshelf though, and I knew they had to see the light of day soon. Finally, over six years later, that day is near.
So here's one of several videos I've put together for the site's debut. This features footage from our last trip in 1997 (the only trip we took video of, actually). It's rated PG for "photos of asbestos and dead animals" and is strictly for non-profit home exhibition.

| | | | Interesting video. I especially like the part where the point man and cameraman had to duck to go thru a narrow spot... that was a really neat slice o' life tunneling moment.
I have to ask tho... how in the hell did a dead bird get that far underground? Do you remember how far down that was? were there signs of otehr birds, of a struggle? What was its dark fate?
Its mysterious death must be unravelled!

Bird?! Hehe, you musta missed the tail and legs; that's a *cat*!
Well, it's pretty creepy, actually. We called that section of tunnel "Pet Cemetery" for that reason. Once in our early tunnelling careers we ventured up this section of tunnels and reached a crawlspace. Didn't want to go into it then though, because it was getting late and we were all a bit escape-minded. Then we saw them: two glowing eyes in the shadows of the crawlspace. We immediately knew they were cat's eyes. We called "kitty, kitty!" but it ran away. Oh well.
Some time later (I want to say about a year) we remembered that place and the crawlspace we hadn't mapped. We went back and found not one, not *two*, but THREE dead cats. ...and they were all within a twenty-foot stretch of tunnel! Eew! ...and yes, VERY mysterious.
Not wanting to encounter any more hollow felines while on our hands and knees, we decided not to take the crawlspace that night either.
THEN, *another* year passed, and on our final trip into the tunnels (the night that video was shot) we went there one last time. This time we were thwarted by the steam leak pictured in the video. Interesting eh? Suppose the 'God of the Tunnels' didn't want us down there for some reason...
