Dynamic Rope

A rope-type with a large amount of elongation (stretch) when loaded, such as with a falling climber. Typical values range from 5% to 10%. This translates to a 5 to 10 foot increase in the length of the rope for every 100 feet of rope length. This rope absorbs energy by elongating, rather than jerking the climber to a stop during a fall. Dynamic rope should always be used when leading a route.
