An excavation for the purpose of extracting underground minerals. Mines come in two main types.

Underground: These mines consist of one or more entrances (see adit), tunnels leading to the mineral deposit, rooms and chambers where the minerals are extracted, stopes, vertical shafts, and surface support structures such as elevator winches, processing mills, bunkhouses, and other buildings. Some mines have a system of underground and surface rails for ore trains.

Open Pit: A large surface pit where minerals are extracted from shallow deposits, these mines are often cheaper than underground mines, but cause much more environmental damage. Quarries are a type of open pit mine. The rock and ore is extracted from these pits in several ways, including explosives, dragline cranes, excavators and dump trucks, or dredges (not widely used since the 1950s).

Mine exploration is considered one of the more dangerous branches of UE. There are significantly more dangers to be found in a mine than in other locations, including toxic gas, unstable tunnels, abandoned explosives, dangerous animals, hidden shafts, and poisonous chemicals. In general, mines should not be explored without proper safety equipment and knowledge of the dangers involved.

Turn off the internet and go play outside.
