| | Looking for Interviews < on 9/11/2008 10:16 PM >
| | | Im a college student new to urban exploring. I was hoping to do some research and possibly write a paper on the finer aspects of infiltrating. Im looking for experienced urban explorers who can explain why they are personally drawn to exploring these industrial ruins, among other questions. If your interested let me know. I live in the Bay Area so if there are some locals that would be even better. Thanks. -Oliver

Don't take this as being smart, but you should try exploring yourself. See it first hand, up close and personal. That's the only way to really enjoy it, not hearing someone else telling you about it. Go have some fun!!!!!!!!!!

| | | lol once again we have this question... im a student / writer / journalist / artist looking for genuine explorers to share the reasons / motives / impulses as to why you do what you do...
this is a valid question, as to may be your motive... but the likelihood you find the answers you seek without jumping in the pool or being flamed is unlikely... good luck

| | | i cant believe people don't know where THE Bay Area is. I'm not even from the west coast and ive heard of it. anyway, i would recommend browsing around the forums a little bit and if you see a moderator or someone who you think would be interesting to talk to float them a PM and they might be able to answer some questions.

You have no room to talk. How many tri-state-area's are there? A lot. Edit: 62. And there are even more where the states don't quite touch, but its close enough to call it such. [last edit 9/15/2008 6:29 PM by MindHacker - edited 1 times]

| | | Haha...I guess my description was too general...But most on the West Coast call San Francisco, Oakland and the surrounding areas THE BAY AREA...I actually did explore Skaggs Island over the weekend and it was pretty intriguing. I didn't see all the buildings I wanted and I might go back or to Mare Island, possibly Hunters Point...Im not looking to exploit urban exploration but rather experience it and discuss its purpose/relevance...Im sure Ill have to "jump in the pool" to write about it but Im alright with that...I will probably try to PM a moderator. Thanks for the help so far.

With a username like 'rinkydinkexplore' I'm not sure how enthused members will be to share information either.

| | | My username has been rinkydinky for many years..It doesn't reflect anything negative about urban exploring...But if thats what they base a their judgement on then I probably don't want to interview them

| | | Perhaps were you to offer or suggest an inventive for us to give you something for nothing we'd be more welcoming. As you've likely deduced from the responses thus far the novelty of answering the same old tedious questions from journalists/students wore thin years ago. Instead of hovering about the edges of the subculture peering in I suggest you throw yourself into the deep end. Urban exploration is not a fucking spectator activity. Buy a plane ticket to New York/Boston/Paris/London/Sydney/Melbourne/etc and spend a night or three trying to get into the subway/metro. Hell hit the BART. Here's some things which might happen to you: - you'll have run ins with security/police - learn how security operates - train yourself to spot CCTV cameras - meet homeless people - learn to pick suspicious people as you're crouching behind the bushes - discover the difficulties of climbing barbed wire - appreciate the subtleties of timing - experience nervousness, fear, tension, adrenaline, terror, elation - learn to trust your judgment - hone your judgment - learn to keep very quiet as workers walk right past you - experience hiding in an alcove as trains rush through the tunnels - find a layed up train - find an abandoned platform - run into graffiti writers in the tunnels - pop out a dirty rubbish filled ventilation grille into a busy street - get arrested - be questioned under the patriot act - have your house pulled apart - held for XXdays without a given reason All these and more could be yours. Best of all, instead of having to ask us the same old tired questions you could write from your own personal experiences and known what drives us, and why we do it. Return with evidence of yourself in the BART/subway/metro and I'll look at (and if they're good) answer some questions. Seriously, it's time we start putting you and your ilk through the meat grinder. Prove why we should help you.
