| | | First Dam < on 10/12/2008 12:24 AM >
| | | I am home from college for the weekend and I decided to go snap some pics of my favorite swimming hole which just happens to be an abandoned dam and pumping station that once supplied the city of Ithaca with fresh clean water from 6 Mile Creek. Nothing too fancy or artsy just some quick shots. Up until this August getting inside was not a problem, but after someone jumped from the roof into shallow water they sealed it up pretty tightly. | | | When did they put the new boards on this? That little cliff is fun to jump off of. [last edit 10/12/2008 12:35 AM by suicidepactphoto - edited 1 times]

I guess since mid July after a swimmer jumped from the 35 feet from the top of the building into 2 feet of water.
From the Ithaca Journal
July 12, 2008 •• 180 words •• ID: ith54623706 From Journal Staff Reports ITHACA — Days after a Long Island man fell into Six Mile Creek gorge from an abandoned building, Mayor Carolyn Peterson said she's directed the city's police and fire departments to crack down on illegal trespassing there. Police have been directed to "arrest and ticket, no warnings" for people found trespassing in the abandoned water pumping building that sits above Van Natta's Dam on Six |

No problem. I actually heard the call go out on my fire department pager and my heart sank because I knew they'd start boarding it up and ticketing people. It's definitely one of the best swimming spots in Ithaca.

| | | I wouldn't go in it anymore. The top portion can still be accessed but the stairs to the lower portion have long since fallen and when i went in to shoot some video last month I almost fell through the floor. But man, I remember the days when you could go behind the waterfall into the rock and climb up the ladder into the structure. [last edit 10/14/2008 5:44 PM by DjMalign - edited 1 times]

Yeah, those were the days. Too bad people have to screw things up.
