| | Quick question RE: Frost Fence & Wire in Hamilton < on 11/4/2008 2:11 AM >
| | | Hey all Took a little trip down to the old Frost Fence building tonight, but made little progress as far as a full exploration. Found our way in, but after a few minutes poking around the main warehouse area, noticed a small locked room with what looked like an alarm system control (visible through the glass window). Took a look around the warehouse and noticed a number of blinking green LEDs clearly attached to motion sensors. Made our way out shortly after, deciding not to risk it. Also noticed a few machines/vehicles around which looked new and still in use. Just wondering if Frost Fence is still active in some form or another, or if the whole alarm system is just a clever way of keeping people out and has no actual function. We were inside for probably 10 min after noticing it, but heard nothing in terms of alarms, and stuck around the area for prob. 20 or so minutes after, no police activity. Any info?

| | | Green LEDs indicate power. Should you see the red LED light go on the sensor, then it's time to start running. Some also have a yellow LED which is sort of an in-between light. Detected movement but not enough to consider an intrusion (eg. small pet).

| | | Be careful there. The burnt out, older section nearer to Lottridge is indeed abandoned, including the offices right up against the street but the blue warehouse farther East is more than likely at least semi-active. That alarm panel is most likely active, and the place is watched during the day. We were caught by a guy in a Hummer who claimed to "know that the owners have spent several thousand dollars on security" and that he was about to call the cops. Probably just an nosy and arrogant friend of someone who works nearby, but he did stay in the area well after as well. Go at night and use cover to your advantage. Be very wary of alarms in that warehouse portion. If you do set something off, get the hell out. Oh, and watch out for the Hells Angels club across the street

| | | I went a few months ago, wandered around the warehouse bits for a while, never went over to the burned out offices that you mentioned. Noticed the motion sensors blinking at us and figured we should go, unsure if the system was actually armed or just powered (since the motion sensors will still blink even if the system isn't armed). We didn't exactly leave in a hurry, and we most likely had set the alarms off LONG before we noticed they were blinking at us. So if I was to guess I'd say the system isn't actually armed or no one gives a shit. No run ins with any angry hummer owners or anything like that. Did notice the THIS AREA IS UNDER VIDEO SURVEILLANCE signs outside though, but again, no one seemed to give a shit.

| | | Nice stuff there Boffo. Looks like the ex-Dofasco building.

| | | I didn't take many photos as there wasn't much to see. I have enough photos of empty warehouses cluttering my hard drive already. It's really not worth getting arrested over this place, which is the only reason we didn't wait around to see if security was coming or not.

| | | Hey thanks for all the responses, everyone. I'd believe the guy in the Hummer too because this system looked BRAND new, the control board was almost similar to a new programmable thermostat, lit up green with a keypad beside it. I guess the consensus is explore with great caution. Didn't look especially interesting in the warehouse area anyhow, but really would have liked to get over to the office portion where it was in "worse" shape. I don't think those sensors had an incredible range on them either, because you really had to get quite close for them to blink yellow or red (which with enough movement they would do in that order), and they were mostly spaced out on the outside walls. But I wouldn't just ignore them, and I suppose it could also be a silent alarm. Ah well. At least we didn't get busted. Weren't too concerned about getting stuck in there though, the quick escape options were endless. Will say though, the sound of the railroad bells suddenly going off at full volume as we made our exit, nearly gave me a stroke!

I doubt we triggered anything beforehand. That seemed to be the only part of the building with power in it, and it wasn't long after I walked into the area I noticed a little red light. But Boffo's right... we went during daylight and didn't exactly bolt out of the place. But it may worth being careful... or at least staying out of what looked like a generally uninteresting empty warehousey part of the building where the motion sensor was.

| | | Frost Fence is completely closed, however DoFasco rents warehouse space there and they have the building monitored. They do not always use the space but the alarms are on anyway.

| | | I work just down the street from this place. Every other week or so there are people there through the day, couple service vehicles, and one of the doors facing onto Lottridge gets propped open. They also have the occasional film shoot going on.
