| | | The Passing of Christ Church St James < on 11/12/2008 3:27 AM >
| | | CHRIST CHURCH, St. James - Quietly, sometime in the last month, Christ Church St James succumbed to the wrecking ball, after being ravaged by fire on April 16th 1998. Muse to many, she will be sadly missed. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to uer.ca 1. Devastation Part 1

7. Another Time The Globe and Mail of June 1, 1946, reported on this event: “All four Toronto Negro churches and various Negro clubs and associations joined in a Welcome Home Banquet for Negro veterans of the Second Great War last night at Afro Community Christ Church, Shaw Street. More than 100 veterans attended. Pastor of Christ Church, Rev. Dr. C.A. Stewart, joined in welcome to Sgt. F.N. Richards, RCAMC; Cpl. L. McCurtis, and SQMS H. T. Shepherd, MBE.”

| | | Wow. I recall a photo Liz took (Ninjalicious' widow) of that black sign-box with "Christ Church - St. James" written in it, and on the dusty pane, someone had written (in dirt) "is no more". This was at least 5 years ago. I'm glad I got to visit it once more, a month or so ago to write this: http://www.blogto....t_church_st_james/ Of all the incredibly beautiful abandonments I have been to, this one was my favorite. Is my favorite. Ashes to ashes. All things go. J->

My thoughts exactly.
Here's a lockpick. It might be handy if you, the master of unlocking, take it with you. |

| | | I was just there last month. I'm sad to see Toronto lose another place to explore. [last edit 11/12/2008 11:29 AM by phrenzee - edited 1 times]

| | | Nice photos and write up Jono! ... Ironically, I was viewing some photos of Christ Church St James here on UER just last night, and was really hoping to check it out at some point this weekend. Once again I am too late.

| | | I'll mark the church's passing with my first HDR picture. Not the best composition but I'm actually fairly pleased with how it turned out.
