I'm going to be in the Midland area over Christmas and was wondering if any of the locals could recommend any locations to explore. Thanks!

I would add the Silos in Port McNicoll. If you are planning to go to the top, prepare for the sketchiest of climbs.

I recommend reading Av's story, The Best Way In, which can be found in the DB entry for Port McNicoll.

Thanks guys. I'll definitely be doing at least one of these.

(Yes Skold, probably the beach.)

I am not sure if St. Theresa's is still standing in Midland . . . nice abandoned high school - its as dark as Satan's bung-hole inside so wear a head-lamp bud.

It was a long slog through thigh-high snow in a driving rain to get to the snowmobile trail that led to the silos. There was no sketchy climb today as there appears to be no access to the basement now. Too much snow?? A beautiful spot nevertheless. I'll be sure to return on a nicer day.

if you have time, stop in collingwood for some skiing. after the last few days of snow storms the skiing has been amazing.

They say "you can't judge a book by its cover!" I say "YES you can, if the cover has a girl on it with a cock in her mouth, its PORN!" if she's 18 and the cock is black, its GREAT porn!

No doubt! Crazy blowing snow when we drove up here on Monday. Unfortunately I'm a cross-country ski guy.

i went up sat night from toronto then skied sunday and monday, the conditions were great, the snow storm seemed to be over collingwood. i was talking to a local she said the x-country skiing conditions were pretty good too. i wanted to check out "camp turn around" on monday but the highway was closed due to the blowing snow, so i opted to ski -a fair trade!

Did I mention the rain?? It was fucking pouring. Here are some pics:

1. The Approach: You start to get an appreciation of how damn big this place is...

2. From Front to Back: Tons and tons of concrete, viewed from the front corner to the back

3. Access: "OK, see the stairs on the right? Jump up about 25 feet and grab onto them. Got it?"

Great pics!! Did you jump??

when you are here, you wish you were there. but once you're there, it soon becomes a here, and you again wish to be there instead of here...

we will never be completely satisfied.

Or you could try for the one in Midland with the super tacky mural painted on the side of it. Having spent time as a kid poking around this one, it pains me to have to look at pictures of it now.
