Kaufman Exploration Collingwood Ontatio

Hey guys. So this is my first official exploration write up, hopefully with many more to come after this, And im sure they will get better as i go.

I guess a quick intro on my self, i live up in the collingwood area *which is about 2 hours north of Toronto* and have really all my life been interested in exploring old ruins and pretty much any thing man made. Only over the last year did i ever realize how much actually exists in the world of Urban exploration, So a buddy of mine and my self decided to start out exploring any thing locally we can find.

Our first major exploration was in to the Old Kaufman furniture factory. Many visitors and locals have driven by this factory for years, its one of the oldest buildings in collingwood and has had numerous additions added on to it over the course of around 100 years, The Kaufman name of furniture was always a very big forerunner in the office and professional building supply trade. Having seen both world wars, and during ww2 its production being shifted over to building mosquito dive bomber planes. Unfortunately due to a downsizing company, they were forced to close the doors of the plant in 2006. Since then its sat abandoned until 2008, when the land was bought and sold to create a bunch of Condos. Since these pictures were taken the building and its attached store shed have been demolished. During the stage the pictures were taken you can see how the interior of the facility has been torn down to be packaged up and sold.

The basic layout of the interior had; 2 large side production rooms *on 2 floors* for all the wood working shops. 1 giant open expanse with shipping, off to the side there were many offices, a large walk in vault with some old computer box's and files from the late 50's in them. There was a couple of strangely creepy electrical rooms. but the strangest room in hole whole place was this big boiler room off to the front cornor *located underneath the large smoke stack as seen from outside* This held a giant boiler that you could almost fit a small buss in.. a few laundry washers and some small furnace doors located on the floor that strangely enough had space for a room you could see from the outside walls. but we couldn't find any way in to this room, and nether of us wanted to climb though the furnaces...

There was some thing very strange about the boiler room, iv read on here about guys having weird feelings in certain places and just the hair standing on the back of your neck.. i cant really explain what it was like, it was'nt the feeling that some thing was watching you, it was just like. every time we took a picture in this one part of the room, it always had weird like dust spots on the lens. and its a digital camera, did'nt matter if the flash was on or off, it just would not come out at all, i added one or two pictures below of it. Now my uncle use to work at the factory in the last few years it was up and running and in a funny random conversation i had mentioned we were looking around abit and he asked us if we thought there was some thing weird about the boiler room. Not having mentioned this to him before i asked why, he told me how over the years people have always said they felt strange there. This was when the factory was in full operation and every thing was kept up well. I did abit of digging and i found out that it required 3 crews had to be hired to tear down this part of the factory on the inside. The first 2 had worked there for only a week or two before the workers just stoped wanting to go to work there and it was creating big problems. Not saying i do or dont believe in ghosts, just thought this was all very weird. if any one had any thoughts id love to hear them.

We actually made 2 trips to the factory, the first was more of a recon trip, looking at the outside, and a basic exploration in to the inside main rooms, but deciding we were ill equipped we decided to come back at night time around 11pm, and explore then. bringing head lamps and flash light, and a set of nvg night vision monocular that i own. And the actually trip was pritty easy, the sitars were all in good shape. and besides a fence and the occasional patrol from a privet monitoring company it was pritty easy access to the site. I would love to recommend this to any other explorers in the area, unfortunatly its all gone now . All in all it was a fantastic building and alot of great things to look at. only wish i had my new camera back then.

So what do you guys think?

Thanks Guys

Yea phrenzee i noticed that write up and pictures, it was very informative. I wish i would have been able to get to this location before they cleaned up the inside of it so much, i imagine it would be absolutely amazing. I just wish there were more locations like this up and around here.

Nice. When I tried this place a couple years back it was alarmed. Glad you didn't have the same experience!

Good pics, and I loved having the write up to go with them. Btw, I thought being creepy was a prerequisite to being a boiler room.
