A friend of mine has the V.I.O POV mentioned earlier in this thread. It's quite good, although pretty expensive.

The latest issue of Wired has an article on this very topic.

“We are not going to have the kind of cooperation we need if everyone insists on their own narrow version of reality. … the great divide in the world today … is between people who have the courage to listen and those who are convinced that they already know it all.”

been willing to buy one a few months ago, one of those gopro cams but when I saw footage in low light conditions I changed my mind. Most POV cams really suck once your inside and you how a low light support

or you could mount a nice Surefire flashlight next to your povcam... that might help xD

The most important thing to consider for urban explorers is light conditions. Normally really poor.
Second one is Stabilization.

On both parameters those video cameras usually sucks, unless they are professional stuff.

*Smiles* I just put a screw through the brim of a baseball cap, then set the band one size smaller to stabilize it on my head.

Sorry about the small picture size, I lost the original and had to take a screen capture from a video I made.

I've seen these used:
http://www.thinkge...ont/helmet_cam.jpg
on helmets, with a thick elastic band. I've also seen chin-bolted p&s, but these tend to produce bad footage, because whenever you peak over something the camera just gets a closeup of whatever you're peaking over.

exactly.

until science invents some kind of 'optical nerve relay recorder', you're better off using a hand held device if possible.

What about GO PRO? My brothers use them from longboarding, i've seen them used on cars, they are super small and have a sweet protection case. I think the HD one just came out

Or do what i did
take a simple hard hat cut a hole in the front
make a mount on the head piece
take said video camera and put in

i use a jvc eviro hdd Video camera if im filming, this was the cheapest and best design i could think of that offers protection to my camera and me, ive field tested it and it works great other than i looked like a goof walking around my wharehouse with it on

We are not enemies, but friends. We must not be enemies. Though passion may have strained we must not break our bonds of affection. The mystic chords of memory will swell when again touched, as surely they will be by the better angels of our nature.

I'm planing to build one too - just bought mini DV camera from Ebay and I plan to take out the image sensor and attach it to the moving head of my LED Lenser H7 headlight and make them fixed together - so that image would always be illuminated by headlight.

I have still to receive the camera and make everything, but I'm sure I'll be able to make everything as planned.

I've been thinking about this for a while, and I think I found a solution with my Gorillapod:

the longboarding groups i board with as well as the guys who share my sponsor use the new gopro wide HD cameras. I remember when i first saw them back when they were only made for the wrist i thought they were trash, but they are definitely worth the money, good quality with anti vibration that really cant be matched for that price.

Several of the Aussies in my industry use this as the recording device for their helmet mounted cameras (helcams).

http://www.helcam.com/

I'll have to check with them and find out specifically what kind of setups they use, but I know several of them have been using helcam-type rigs since the days when it was running to a belt-mounted tape recorder. So they have alot of history with this kind of stuff.

Give a person a match and they'll be warm for a minute, but light them on fire and they'll be warm for the rest of their life. =)
