Exteriors of a hospital

A few weeks back, my boyfriend and I decided to check out the abandoned hospital across from where he works on his lunch break. Unfortunately, I only had my ancient PowerShot A20 with very low batteries with me so I only managed to get a few quick pictures. Shortly I plan on returning with my Canon F-1, or a new DSLR.

When we went around the front to the main entrance we spotted a truck parked outside the sliding doors. As we approached the doors, they opened right up. We didn't venture in, no matter how tempting it was. Perhaps some of you braver ones would've.

Around the side again to another entrance, there was a truck parked there as well. We walked right by the guys who were there, who we said hello to, and they simply said "how's it going?" and continued on.

The hospital also has what used to be a daycare attached to it. It's all sealed up pretty tight, though, and I suspect there's security given how many windows had the number for security posted inside.

Anyways, a few quick pictures...

This post is great because you posted some info, images and didn't give away any details to prevent a huge rush of people to the site.

Air33 - Thanks! I was hoping I was doin' it right, hehe.

vapula - Hopefully one of these days, but it's a fairly busy area, plus the two vehicles that were there. I'd love to get inside an abandoned hospital. Since I was a kid I've always wanted to visit an abandoned psych hospital - I was heartbroken when Whitby was torn down before I got there - but I think a regular hospital would tide me off, haha.

I would suggest going at night the first time, if it's in a busy part of town. Just make sure that you find out if security is there at night.

I'm almost positive it's got security...it was mentioned to me by someone I know that a security company watches it. Just gotta keep an eye on it, maybe down the road it'll just be left alone.

I'd really love to go there. A hospital would be such an amazing explore. I've never been in a place like that before..

Tell me? :3 I'd go there ASAP! provided it isn't too far of a drive of course!

This looks great. If its the place that I'm thinking of there is a way in, and it's be worth getting in there sooner better than later.

That is, if it's the place I'm thinking of.

PMH has 24 hr security (stationed at emerg), CC TV and now a big fence around it, being prepared for renovations. I was there back in April...thread is around here somewhere.

It does indeed.

The fence isn't for renovations...but demolition. All of the equipment inside is almost gone(sold) and by the end of next month (or later) they'll start knocking the place down.

"The Central West Local Health Integration Network is leading the consultative and planning process to determine what health care services will be provided at this site. In the meantime, the building is being decommissioned and readied for redevelopment slated for the 2009/2010 timeframe. William Osler Health Centre is very proud of Peel Memorial Hospital’s long and dedicated history of service. We are committed to participating as a full partner in the planning and implementation of a redeveloped Peel Memorial and look forward to the day when we can open its doors once again to serve the health care needs of the community." William Osler Health Centre

Perhaps part demo, but I was talking to one of the people in charge of the project, and she said that they are renovating to have the place open again in some capacity. Not as it was, but either a teaching place or long term care or something. She says it is a sensitive issue in the community. So, I dunno. Maybe she lied. Maybe they are just demoing it. I guess we'll find out soon.

(a lot of the "stuff" was crammed in the basement auditorium and cafeteria....tons of it).

But perhaps "redevelopment" really means "tear down and build something new".

Well everything of use from the beds to the curtains to the buttons on the walls have been sold and are in the process of being removed, so that alone will tell you that there is no plan to re-open this site, especially nto when there is a brand new hospital to replace it with.

Most of the stuff that was crammed in the basement has been hauled away by the guy who pretty much bought anything he could get his hands on.
