Mommy where do babies come from? (Sudbury, Ontario)

"What?!?!?!" *perspirating mother*

"Mommy where do baby fish come from?"

"Oh!" *wiping forehead with back of hand*

"Well you see my lovely child, baby fish come from hatcheries. You see fish lay eggs which are collected from containers full of fish. These eggs are then fertilized inside a building where they will turn into baby fish. Because the water is pure and machines monitor the water to keep it clean and free from dirt and bacteria, over 90% of the eggs survive."

"I don't understand mommy"

"Well you see, fish lay eggs. Up to 300,000 of these eggs are put into a pool, like a swimming pool. Then they turn into baby fish and are released into the lake where they can grow into big fish. Here, I'll take you for a drive to an abandoned fish farm where people used to live on site and hatched fish eggs for many years. the place is closed now and only animals visit the place. Watch out for bear poop."

Taken on the 25 May, 2009 in Sudbury area

Ha ha, nice intro! That looks like a neat place, although I'd be most interested in reading the water quality reports.

Funny you ask...

I visited this place about eight years ago while it was still operational. It was on UE business at the time. I didn't expect anyone to be there, let alone living there. This guy with wild crazy hair was living (and working) in the house on site. He seemed to be kind of out of it at the time.

A few of us simply showed up at the door and he let us come in and talk to him. He had a wild look in his eyes and the conversation went something like this:

(looks to me) So who are you?
I'm XXXX
(looks to other person) And who are you?
I'm Shayne
(looks to last person) And you are?
I'm Christine.

Then, sounding like a mad scientist might sound while rubbing his hands together and developing some wild plan, he spins to each of us and says, "Soooo you're XXXXX, and you're Shayne... and you're Christine". It was a rather ominous tone of voice and the appearance of this guy really scared me. I thought he was going to grab a knife and attack us.

Anyway we shot the shit and he ended up giving us a photo album full of old photos from the area, which the guy named Shayne took and never returned. It's a shame because I was the only explorer, they were just stoners along for the trip and semi-interested in the history.

The place had been abandoned for a few years now. I had no idea it was vacated until today. There's still food in the kitchen and computer equipment so it looks to have been vacated in a hurry.

PM sent with directions...

This looks neat. You have to track down that Shayne character and get the photo album back.

I hate thumbnails, but I am trying to learn to accept them.

Your avatar is great. It makes me feel as though we have some kind of magical connection where our avatars are cosmically linked. Either that or you change yours to look like mine. Either way, I am happy.

Que pasa, baby?

There were too many images (mainly of ho-hum content) for me to consider posting them as full images. That was my reasoning anyway

We are connected by magic, of course... the universe has decided we are to be drawn together.

(okay, I admit I liked the "Now with added cats" and I chose to copy it)

It's awesome things like this (and pretty much ONLY things like this) that make me sad that I left Sudbury. I still visit but I never just run into stuff like this anymore. It's wonderful. Thanks!

Can you PM me the directions, too? I think I know round-about where it is, and I'm pretty sure I've looked at it with Google Earth.

Good find! I liked the original story (I conveniently had to get out and pump gas just yesterday when my 4 year old asked me how the seeds for [human] babies get inside the Mommy.) The older story about the crazy guy was pretty amusing, too! And I think the pics were worthy of a bigger size.
