Yeah, I just assumed that maybe his family lived nearby, but obviously the guy has problems that aren't being looked after. That's not to say the state can do any better, its just sad.
|
Yeah it's hard to tell. I mean, the photos in the house showed he did have a family...it's really sad. I hope no one got the impression I was making fun of him or anything, I was just trying to describe how I felt at the time and trying to describe him so that it would be understood.

| | | Great story! Last week fivepointsix and I were on our way back from London and we passed an awesome looking old place. It was falling apart and totally overgrown, so we pulled in the driveway to have a better look. We knocked on the front door, and then the back... no answer. I tried the door and it was open, so I peeked in and shouted 'hello' a few times.... no answer. There was garbage and spiderwebs EVERYWHERE, but the house was fully furnished and when we opened the fridge (everything int it was expired) the fridge light went on - telling us there was still power to the house. We decided to leave because we just couldn't be sure.... if I had to guess, I'd say no one lived there, but then again... sometimes it's just so hard to tell. We did the same thing! Knocked and called out...no signs of power, but there was a portable fireplace in the bedroom. As I apparently demonstrated, you're absolutely right...sometimes it's just too hard to tell. Better to be extra careful!

This is exactly what I thought -- this feels like a horror movie, haha. Only he didn't have a pitchfork thankfully.

| | | That was honestly an awesome story shadowedsmile and great shots to go with it. Like others have said, its nice when people take the time to write something about their explorations. Even if just small tidbits of information that still give someone a general idea of what may have happened while exploring. Sometimes...with good writing and enough detail in the story (as shadowedsmile did in this one) its as if you were there exploring along with them. These make excellent writers and even better storytellers. Thank you very much for this shadowedsmile. "Big Daddy D"

| | | Thanks! I'm glad people have enjoyed what was the most awkward and weird moment in my years of exploring. This happened back in April and I still tend to make a D: face when I think about it and tell the story. I'm less inclined to explore alone after that as well...I'd likely freeze up and panic if my ex wasn't there to talk to the strange old man, since he wasn't having our (honest) story that we were just there to take photos.

| | | Great story and pics....it would be interesting to find out his story. Thanks for posting this I was out in Winter with my best friend cruising the sideroads, we found one house abandoned and in pretty decent shape and had a good tour through it. As we left we spotted another one-in much rougher shape-on the same road. As we walked up to it I noticed large bootprints in the fresh snow, the tracks were going in but no tracks were coming out. There were no tire tracks however. The house was in bad shape but every window was covered with blankets or newspapers....we both felt our radar going off so we didn't go further. Didn't want to meet the owner of those huge feet!

| | | Good story shadowedsmile and nice shot of the staircase. But I do wonder where he gets his cigarette's? Maybe, it was fate and you gotta go back and offer he something for your opportunity to roam around his house and take photos.

This has definitely taught me to trust my gut. I usually do, but I ignored it this time, and that's what happened! Man Underground - this place isn't too far from a Reserve (cheap cigarettes) and there was a truck on the property, although it didn't look like it had been used anytime recently...I mean, it's not unusual to find abandoned vehicles so we brushed it off. Everything about the whole place said abandoned, but as I found out, obviously not.
