| | Robson-Lang Leathers < on 6/4/2009 2:34 AM >
| | | So here is my first photo-post here @ UER. As the subject says it is the former Robson-Lang Leathers factory in Kitchener. I sort of stumbled across this site (despite its obviousness) while I was scoping a point of entry for the Barra Castle with Karma Kitten (who also took many of the photos despite peeing herself in terror for most of the excursion). There is no such need for this building as it just stands as open as can be and its pretty obvious that many other people have used and abused this place. A definite hobo squat and play-area for local teens. If the structure wasn't simply concrete filled with steel things i am sure it would have been burned down long ago as there are burned mattresses and things all over and Ikea tea lights. Clearly there have been some romantic moments shared in this dank and unsanitary place. Not by me or my associates though. ew. I was pretty stoked that there were actual rusty meathooks there though. *edit* I just found this little note on a website about the company: Barrie deaths investigated The Ontario Ministry of Labour is investigating reports of deaths and illness said to be linked to a company that operated tanneries in Barrie, Oshawa, Kitchener, and Coburg. The Simcoe County Injured Workers Association says that it has received reports of appalling working conditions at the plants, and the dumping of hazardous chemicals into city sewers and creeks. The company, Robson Lange Leather Inc. closed in 1986. Dr. Jim Stopps, chief of health studies services for the Ministry of Labour, said that 44 reports of death and illness are being investigated. | | | Welcome to UER. Your post doesn't have any images attached however. You can use the Quick Gallery Creator to attach multiple images to your posts. It's the blue and white applet just below the compose box. You can also choose to manually Attach an Image. The Rookie forum has a pretty comprehensive set of guides to help you get used to the forums.
