| | Chatham Area? < on 7/1/2009 11:04 PM >
| | | Hi guys! I was wondering, if any of you are from the Chatham area, do you know any good abandoned places/houses I could go to? I've done some of the ones on Highway 3 a bit past Blenheim, but last time I went out there I could barely find any, so I was thinking of going towards Chatham this time, but it'd be nice to know some locations beforehand! Thanks!

| | | I'm from a little North East of there (not London, ON) and I have the same problem. There are few places that I've seen besides the odd house or barn. There's two warehouses in Ridgetown that looked abandoned, but I never had the time to explore. I think you'd probably find more places around Windsor. Also I've been thinking of taking a look at camp Ipperwash, but I'll need permission to do that.

| | | I forgot to ask, but since you're from Chatham, what is the city doing with the old armouries? I know they were vacated by the military a few years ago, are they being used for something else now?

| | | I found another place thanks to Wikimapia, how about Southwestern Regional Centre? It states that it's only been abandoned since 2008.

| | | Windsor is a good bet for abandonements I was there a couple of weeks ago and I passed by at least 2-3 big locations that looked interesting and there were quite a few abandoned houses too.

| | | There are some very nice abandoned homes in Dresden, Blenheim, Florence and the sideroads. You could try messaging the user "BlenHeim", she is from... well, Blenheim.

it could be risky to go there because it might be turned in to a jail, my mom used to work there, she got laid off in 08

It's an interesting piece of property but there isn't a whole lot more to it than what you see from the road. Your right about getting permission though, not only because it's a reserve (er, I think ... the gov't gave the army camp to the Stoney Point Chippewa in the mid 90s and are also giving back the provincial park that abuts it) but also because people live there. You could try driving in to the smoke store to see if someone would accompany you so nobody gets the wrong idea. The "unexploded ammunition" signs are likely true as there was an artillery firing range here.
