| | Symes Meat Packing Plant < on 8/5/2009 12:43 AM >
| | | Anyone else been there lately? I'm not really sure this is the meat packing plant or a food inspection plant. Any ways, the place was almost entirely unstable - water damage, fire damage, etc. but we did get downstairs to the very dark basement. Fairly boring place really because it was way too risky to travel through due to the damage. here are a couple of shots. Can any one confirm this is the meat packing plant??
The basement...
Fire damage...
The only cool thing about this place was the ability to take some wicked people pictures.

| | | Nice pictures! I'll have to go back because I was there a week after you were and you managed to get much better pictures inside. Looks like it is well worth it. As a vegetarian it is equally disgusting and intriguing at the same time. [last edit 8/5/2009 11:51 AM by PeachGirl - edited 1 times]

| | | Wear a respirator in the basement. I never wear one. That basement taught me a lesson that involved doctors and xrays and hospital waiting rooms. The fire damaged bits are not totally unsafe to walk over. I've done it before. Just don't be stompie and be careful about it. I've seen people a lot heavier than I am not fall through, so it should be fine. Also, the meat hooks are really fun to swing on.

| | | Apparently when this place went up in flames it was a nightmare for firefighters to get under control. The fire lasted 24 hours because of layers and layers of insulation and oils from various animal carcasses.

Really? Cause KONG, Boffo and I went down into the basement with respirators and had no problems afterwards.

I had been there twice in a week, and the first time spent a good deal of time in the basement. Prolly didn't help that I was in a tower with a metal grating staircase that was filled will piles of silica dust not too long after. Coughing up blood is no fun kids.
