Abandoned farm in Halton

This is an abandoned farm than I have been driving past daily for years. The original owners sold it to "some rich people from Toronto" who apparently had plans to raze the entire facility and build a mansion, but with the economic downturn it has sat idle.

When hydro came by and collected their transformer, I figured it was a safe bet that nobody would bother me if I took a look around.

The barn is over 100 years old and is of pinned mortise and tenon construction. The garage next to the house has also been built this way so it probably is of a similar age.

The barn is suffering from neglect and decay is accelerating. The floor has dropped through in a few places and the north wall is beginning to bow outwards noticeably.

Save for one, all silos on the property have been demolished. All existing pig-barns have been torn down.

The original part of the house is likely as old as the barn. There is no basement in that part. At a later time, the house was made larger. The home has an unusual "pig motif" but that's understandable as this was a pig farm. The door under the deck is unlocked as well as the side door. Front door is dead-bolted.

Walking down the hill next to the house, adjacent to the pond is what I would describe as an an artesian well. It is a small brick-lined chamber into which water flows year-round. Water is drawn from this buffer space into the house. Surplus water flows into the pond.

There is a large steel barn on the property. The farmer who leases the land from the current owners keeps some machinery in there, and he keeps it locked.

Recently a No-Trespassing sign has been posted at the road, and a rope/cable strung between the house and metal barn with a few more signs attached. Nobody seems to patrol the area except the neighbours kids playing on their ATVs.

I grew up in western Canada and this style of barn and it's construction are something I had never seen before.

Awesome, loving the barn. It's interesting how barn architecture varies so much across different areas of Ontario, let alone Canada. That barn's construction (post & beam) is nearly identical to the one on my parents property near Peterborough. Theirs was built in 1908.

The foggy, overcast day gives it somewhat of an eerie feel. Very interesting location!

Keep it fuzzy.
