Re: UE Videos? <Reply # 20 on 10/22/2009 11:18 AM >
Videos are nice if the place is already vandalized... I mean, people don't have to see too much information about entrance in good objects. I have uploaded some UE videos on youtube, too. Some explorers from Poland saw these videos and then they visited my country^^.It was really awesome to be their UE guide
Posted by DJ Craig I'm going to piggy back on this thread and add my own question.
I don't explore with a camera because it's just too bulky and screws up the experience for me. But I often wish I had some kind of good documentation of the exploring that I do other than other people's pictures. So I was thinking about the possibility of using some kind of helmet cam (preferably minus the helmet, maybe on a headband or something?) or something. What I'd be looking for is a somewhat small, light camera that can record many hours of video. Doesn't need to be high quality or anything. I could record sound separately using an audio recorder in my pocket and combine them later. Being water proof or water resistant would be a huge advantage. It would have to have pretty decent battery life (preferably from a battery pack in the back like most good headlamps have) and no LEDs on it that would give me away when hiding in the darkness. Having a headlamp built in as well would be incredible. That's pretty specific and I guess I'm unlikely to find a camera that fits all of those criteria...but does anyone know of anything at all like that?
Well, it's not waterproof, and there's no lights or battery pack. But you can do what I do, just a simple bolt and some washers through the brim of a baseball cap. Keeps shots relatively steady. Just make sure the band is tight!

I love that one. I think a couple of days ago I watched a different one made by you, the effects were very similar.
Has anyone made or seen a good draining video? I was thinking about making one but am a little skeptical on how well it will turn out. "Is that the entrance to the drain?" "Yeah" "It's right behind the police station." "Oh. Maybe we should go to a different one..."
I enjoy taking Photo's because its more visually appealing. I'm fond of editing my photo's in some interesting ways when something comes to mind.
I wish to start filming once I get around to buying a Camcorder. But I have a crappy iPod 5th Gen.. which I use every random instant when I'm exploring && I just upload my videos on my Youtube account. We are the decaying flesh on every wall. We are the creatures of your underground. We are Urban Explorers.
Echoing what almost everyone else said, 87.5% of all UE videos have the potential to be awful. That being said, there is also some pretty cool stuff floating around.
UE video are seeming to hit the professional/semi-professional level now too. Think low budget Discovery Channel http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1249189/ or their site http://www.urbanexplorersfilm.com/ but enough plugging that crap. It just amuses me that this hobby is something that would hit late-night travel channel.
