Death is not the End

These are from an old textile mill circa 1860-70. (My guess based on other mills of the same style in the area) My first find using GE.
Pics are both film and digital, compiled from 3 visits. It's been a bit of a learning curve trying to light this place well for a decent shot.

(edit: correct orientation

1) 575' of RR bridge to cross, though one could just park in front ( What fun is that?) the mill can be seen diagonally through bridge to right.

2) recent work on the dam. This out/overflow is new as is the concrete tunnel to the left.

Very nice, especially the second half of the set.

I agree. The grainy black and white really gives it an old-time look. I can just picture a couple of guys in vests, spats, bow ties, and bowler hats standing around the machines in #18.

Very nice set, the river below the bridge in the last shot, looks near flood stage? Or at the very least, it looks angry.

You can see a million miles tonite, but you can't get very far.

It had been raining but not quite flood stage(rain made for great sound effects inside the building, leaks and all.). The bridge is over a section of rapids and it does roar. And yeah I think most dammed rivers are ANGRY.

Excellent series of shots. Boy I love really old machinery like this, like #18... I would have spent a half hour just inspecting that thing. #19 is interesting too, was that a lock or something. Also I love all the old brick-arches. Nice explore man!

Jerkabobber, (Angling terminology?)

#19 is a Toledo scale, quite a bit larger than one would find in the bathroom.

For minutia's sake, on the full res version of this pic the scale goes to 1000lbs.

gr8, have you come across these?

(Edited for clarification)

Sure have, there were several in a local fabric mill nearby my house, but they have since been trashed by local retards. Mine went up to 500lb's. Toledo seems to have been the industry standard.

Now I'm wondering if they were specific to the textile industry, probably not but interesting.

Nope, lol... I've never heard that before, but good guess. Actually some friends made up this "name" a long time ago. I use it because it's so weird.

Great shots! Is the old water works still there on the opposite side of the river?

It is, right next to a substation (I assumed it was hydro pwr) New fence surrounds it. I think they may have revamped the turbines, this is only a guess. That new "tunnel" in pic 2 looks like it could deliver water for hydro power. Mill is owned by the power co. If I remember correctly.
Need to do some more investigating.

Swung by here today while in the neighborhood. Looks like recent survey activity and some new painted "X"s, maybe it's coming down soon.
