Yeah even though I try not to eat McD's, I was really shocked they weren't at the zoo anymore. They had that place on lock, almost Disney power.

Yeah if this train is still in existence, then I would love to find out where it tucked away. Actually come to think of it I do remember seeing the two trains that collided sitting on the property where the "Red Barn" is. Can be seen from the east side of Meadowvale rd, across from the Toronto Zoo. I think the Zoo uses the barn for something but I'm not too sure for what though.

I think they were stored somewhere on the grounds, my uncle mentioned it before, and told he will let me know. But that was a while back, and never got back to me. So I'll ask him again tonight what happened to them. He did say one thing that I can remember though, they dont really throw things away, they just store it.

Thanks to everyone for a great time on Saturday, Feb 13, 2010. Six people in total. A three-hour hike along several sections of the track. The outing even included a quick look at the Valley Halla place, where a couple of Zoo security guards... well that's a story for another time.

Especially thanks for someone who helped me over the high fence... My moniker 'oldtimer' is fitting as I am probably twice the age of most people there. Or maybe three times. I'm approaching 55 and doing a Dilbert type cubicle job again so anything fancier than straight hiking kinda exacerbates my new-found fear of heights and a buggered up knee.

I don't think there's a UE DB entry for this place yet. Someone wanna start one? Or I can if there are no takers. I'd love to post some pics and also see some of the other photos people took there.

Yes Oldtimer the monorail explore was definitely awesome! The outcome was pretty good too! Yeah I was going to make a db for this location so it should be up shortly.

yea they weren't making enough money since in the contract the food provider for the zoo has to be open all year round so compass group is now there

Great photos! This looks like a really nice walk. Maybe when it gets warmer there could be another meet up? I know me and my sister would love to check this place out. It's only a 15 minute drive too

I'm assuming you didn't walk all the way into the zoo. Just in the wooded areas? What was the story with the security at the Valley Halla?

The real question is, why did "l333t", the organizer of the event and the one who set the ungodly 9AM time frame, not show up to his own meet?

Wait...what? You can't set an event and then not show up to it that's just crazy. I'm surprised he didn't talk to anyone because he should of informed somebody he wasn't going to make it.

Anyways, glad the day went well and the turnout was decent. Kinda upset i wasn't able to make it (damn night shift!), but will definitely be checking it out soon.

Well, according to MY interpretation, we did cross a fence to get to the mono rail portion we did explore. Others say it wasn't zoo property yet. At least not where the zoo-paying public would wander into. So perhaps we were in a wilderness area that's not public (zoo entry fee paying type) and not public as far as people coming freely from the neighborhood. A neutral zone. The small feeding/care centers appeared to once cater to various hoofed animals (deer?) which roamed in that neutral zone. Judging from some of the artifacts, possibly until around 2005.

But either way, we started out walking west, and the track turned north - where we crossed the river. We spotted someone below doing something with industrial garbage bins so we turned around. We walked eastward - then the track turns north, makes a few bends and ends up buried underneath a hillside. This is near where we could see public transit buses. In all we explored the bottom portion "U" shape of the track.

The Valley Halla is well alarmed and patrolled. Unfortunately there was already vandalism evident... so I really can't fault the security measures. It's something us good people are suffering for thanks to idiots. Some of us would have loved to see inside as well but that was not to be. The guards were satisfied we were basically a bunch of wandering photographers, and a dog. They pointed out that we must have ignored several no-trespassing signs on the way. Well there was one which was easily ignored... and several more warning to not trespass into a field along the driveway, which we obeyed dutifully. I think they overestimate the number of true, effective signs. Perhaps some have fallen off.

I took a few pics anyways... but there's no UE DB entry yet to place them.

I have created a UE DB location for the Valley Halla. It's under Toronto "Valley Halla".

OK, thanks! I moved the Zoo to "Scarborough" which is more correct... but maybe that's not a good idea. Can be moved back under Toronto if that's better.

Personally, I would keep it under Toronto where the majority of the locations are, especially since it's currently the only entry under Scarborough.

I made it out there today. Had a nice little walk and had fun going up and down a nice hill. I saw a few animals but didn't get too close. Fun location

I asked my uncle about the red barn and the train. The red barn is used for storage of food for the animals, it used to store the trains there before they were sold for scrap. Fortunately it turned out that the trains were eventually sold to another Zoo using simular trains for parts.

Hi,

There is no such city as "Scarborough", that's why it should not be listed under that name. The Metropolitan Toronto Zoo is located in Toronto.

Cheers,

Yup. Amalgamation in the 90's took care of that. I lived in Scarborough for 20 years and still call it that, but for as long as I can remember it's always been known as The Metro Toronto Zoo.
BTW, Great pics guys!

there will always be a "Scarborough"...
at least in my heart.

They say "you can't judge a book by its cover!" I say "YES you can, if the cover has a girl on it with a cock in her mouth, its PORN!" if she's 18 and the cock is black, its GREAT porn!
