| | | Posted by Caenos From my experiance, Blue filters are intended to be used in a stealth situation. Blue is the least eye-catching colour (according to some us milatary study, red is most eye catching whereas blue is the least. Theres facts to back this up somewhere, something to do with less area in the eye that reacts to blue light or something like that) |
I can back the eye-catching point. blue lights are usually used backstage and in A/V booths in theatre productions for that very reason. [last edit 6/7/2004 6:28 AM by um...Vince - edited 1 times]

| | | Hi. New to the forum and thought I'd put in my two cents. The red lens on a wight LED flashlight won't work to well because the led is actualy producing either a very dark blue or UV light and phsophers inside the led absorb and re-emit the light as a wightish blue color, so there is very little red and almost no IR light, which is why they are used a lot in archival situations. Also if you want a free way to color you flashlight you can contact several companies online and ask for a gel swatchbook. They are from theatrical supply companies, Rosco, LEE, GAM, Apolo, to name a few. They come with hundreds of colors and difusion media, and they're free! I am a theatre lighting designer/technician and if for no other reason colored light is useful for identifying people in the dark, such as backstage of a play or while UEing, everyone just has a diffrent color in their light.

| | | I remember reading somewhere that a blue filter is esp. good at night as it blends in with moonlight. Can't find an online source to back that up though.

No. Blue shows up probably better than any other monochromatic light. Of course white is the worst, but red is best because it is harder to see at night as well as being reflected less than other spectrums on average.
