| | | I thought this may be of interest to the more historically minded folks... I recently came upon a series of galleries taken by a retired railroad Signal & Communications employee. There's lots of photos posted of downtown Toronto in the 80's. Very rail-centric, but included are the abandoned CN Spadina roundhouse and yard complexes (all of which is now becoming condos a la The Railway Lands), the building of the Skydome, Liberty Village, etc. There is also some small town coverage. http://homepage.ma.../PhotoAlbum31.html Be warned, there's a lot of content and some/most isn't labelled very well. | | | Wow!! What a treasure trove of old pictures. You are right to warn us. I just killed an hour going through those. Some very cool views of the Inglis and Massey Harris buildings. It is amazing how much that area has changed in 25 years. Thanks for the link.

| | | In the 1980s, you could see those last glimpses of a distant industrial city; it was the last decade when working Victorian era factories where still common and the huge rail yards were still located downtown. These photos are great resources because we don't have that many photos of the era online. The Toronto Archives has thus far really focussed on digitizing photos with expired copyrights and some from the postwar period up to the 1960s, but we haven't seen much from afterwards (yet). I don't have time right now to look through it adequately, but I like what I see so far.

Thanks! What a fantastic link. Unfortunately no photos from West Toronto Junction area (that I could see during my quick look last night). My favourite is this one: http://homepage.ma...86/85-10-%2324.jpg
Dunno if that link will work, but the title I would give it is: DEVO inspects the new GO Transit Bi-Level Cars

| | | *bookmarked* This is a great series of galleries. Where did you find these? It's amazing how different "Old Toronto" is from "New Toronto". It has been 30+ years, though which is really quite a length of time (even if it doesn't feel like it). It seems like just yesterday that MTV had just started. I think I might archive this site before it goes 404. I spent a good amount of time just perusing the Bala Derailment pictures.

| | | Wow, this is where the Dufferin Jog was constructed! Amazing..I always wondered why the space was empty on that lot (until now).
Wow a roundhouse ruin! Anyone from around that way? Is it still around? All I could find was a house in the DB... http://www.uer.ca/...ow.asp?locid=28787
I guess we won't be hearing from TRAINS for a while... [last edit 2/23/2010 4:06 AM by Air - edited 3 times]

| | | In that Devo picture, what is (or was) that building that is in the middle of the frame. With the Sunlife billboard. This is the strip of rail between Bathurst and spadina right?

Looks like it says Federal Cold Storage on one side. Edit: this is the strip between Strachan and Bathurst. [last edit 2/26/2010 3:18 AM by M. Fuzzy - edited 1 times]
