Feel free to post others in area. I finally got around to visiting the abandoned Insane Asylum in Rochester, Ny. It was a pretty sweet time. Took about 40 mins just to "find" a way in though. ha Here's a bunch of pictures my friend took of the adventure.

If I was really created in God’s image then when God was a boy he wanted to grow up to be a man, a good man, and when God was a man, a good man, he started telling the truth in order to get honest responses.

Cool, its been a while since I remember seeing a set from here, I always wondered what it looked like in the day. I should have taken more photos when I went but I remember having to take a huge shit for most of the exploration and my feet were soaking wet/freezing cold.

Here's a lockpick. It might be handy if you, the master of unlocking, take it with you.

The one hatch like door was pad locked. (no bolt cutters) And the door to the roof was locked pretty good. Wire door was shut, with padlock; and 2 thick metal rod locks. Hard to describe... It's funny though, we went through pretty much every single room in the place. Came down from the 15th floor, and when we were leaving we heard voices. So we hid in a side room and turned off our flashlights. Cause there was no absolutely no way in till we got in, so it was sketchy. Once I noticed it wasn't cops or security I said hi to them. Scared the shit outta them; turns out they came in the entrance we found... Long story short, last I saw of them was back on the 15th floor trying to saw through the door to the roof. haha

Yeah some of the floors were pretty wet. There's pipe insulation on the ground that just squishes under your feet and gets stuck on your shoes. Looks like homeless people broke in and stole all the copper piping... It was pretty cold in 90% of the building, but there was 1 room on each floor that was at least 10-15 degrees warmer than the rest. On one level it was like an exercise room (assuming... pictures of sports and people working out on the walls) and the music room (assuming... pictures of instruments and music notes.

You cant really experience the place until you walk a mile through flooded tunnels in February with garbage bags on your feet to get in. My pant legs were frozen the entire day. The power house is pretty interesting. Check it out if you get a chance.

Where are the tunnels? I went into what i thought was the basement/boiler room but didn't see a lower level. Also is the power house smaller building outside? I noticed it when we were out on the roof.

Nah, you can't really experience the place until you tear your waders breaking through 2-inch thick ice in the flooded basement, and /then/ walk a mile through flooded tunnels in /January/. In related news, I walked 8 miles to school uphill both way and get off my lawn!

Smaller building with smokestacks nearby. Of the three times I've been in, two of them have been through it. Had a really close call that resulted in me ditching equipment there a month ago, so I haven't been there in a while- cool place, though.

If that's the wire door I remember, the bottom corner was bent up, such that I've never had much trouble crawling under it. Did it look repaired?

You're doing it wrong. This is an asylum, not a drain. If you really want this kind of experience, you should be a drainer

I dunno, I thought the whole walking a mile of tunnels, and straddling asbestos lined pipes, and flooding my shoes with whatever the hell was in that water was one of my favorite building entrances to date. Except for the part where I went out and bought new shoes the next day. If more drains had huge buildings accessible at the end, I'd be all over that.

I didnt know this was in Rochester... you would think they would be fixing the roads instead of fixing an abandonded building.

Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs even though checkered by failure, than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much because they live in the gray twilight that knows neither victory nor defeat.

Cool I'm adding that to my summer list.

I've been in long steam tunnels but never a mile long.. that's nuts. And sweet autoclaves + hydrotherapy shower + lobby + OR = a must do. Are you sure it's an asylum? It looks more like a general hospital. What do I know though

Were you able to get in the basement at all? Also, did you see the bunker like entrances to the left of the building? Do you know what they are or where they go to?

The state no longer owns the building, hence why it's now so easy to get inside.
