I heard that they are rebuilding eventually on the same site but as for right now, eastbound driver's on the 401 will have to drive off the freeway to nearby towns for their fix of fuel, Wendy's Tim Hortons and Mr. Sub.

Wow, I used to stop there all the time driving out to Kingston while my brother went to school there. Didn't realize it had closed down for whatever reason.

This is the one near Wesleyville.
All of these old school Service Centres are scheduled to be demolished and replaced with new buildings or extensively rehabilitated/renovated. This may have been one of the last ones left. Hell, I remember when it was a Scott's Chicken Villa (aka KFC).

Anyone gone by the ones west of Trenton? Has construction progressed yet?

You know, I always thought that name was the exact opposite of KFC.

The last time I drove to Montreal about 6 months ago, there was a number of highway-side stations shutdown. A real big pain in the A for eastbound drivers.

It was still like that over Easter weekend, I don't recall any of them being open between Gananoque and Napanee.

mmmm... those were the days. Hot loaves of soggy buttermilk bread, atomic green cole slaw. I miss that KFC. You got chicken, and that was it.

I don't know about any of the other ones, but I know for a fact the one in Mississauga off the 401 also on the east bound side, I think it's closest to Winston Churchill, is definitely closed down and has been pppfffff for a while. lol. Always been wanted to stop in and check it out but every time I drove by there was a security car parked right near the exit/on ramp.

They all seem to be boarded up really well too, a little overkill if you ask me but whatever.

I have stopped by this one a few times but haven't been able to find a way in. Once I decided to go have a look in the gas station and caught the security guard in there with his lady friend watching something on their computer. He seemed just as surprised as I was and just asked me to leave.

As someone who drives 100,000 km + a year, having EVERY service centre closed at the same time is such a pain in the ass. It's not always practical to turn off the 401 and head into town to get fuel when you're driving a vehicle the size of Hearn.

The McDonalds they leveled between Brighton and Trenton was totally redone 4 or 5 years ago. I don't get it.

...the best damn atomic green cole slaw on the face of the earth!

As for the older service stations, last time I was heading to Windsor I stopped of at what I think may be the oldest services station still operating with a Mr. Sub, McDonald's and gas bar.

They have three new ones up and building. Just steel and glass so far. They are closer to Quebec and one in Trenton.
East of Toronto the only original one left is in Odessa(Kingston). Down near Windsor I heard a couple are up and building too.

23 Ontario roadside service centers to be operated by Canadian Tire.
Should make them consistent and sustainable instead of a bunch of different people/companies trying to figure out a system

there is plenty of other places to get gas. Those 401 service stations are always overpriced anyways.

the 6 scotts/texaco stations were always my favorites, too bad they are getting leveled. the shell ones were never much to look at and the 2 petro canada ones with the mc donalds were nothing to write home about either. Anyone remember the tower sticking out of the domes on the scotts ones ?
