What, Me Worry?
| | 3 Scarborough Drains... < on 5/3/2010 10:06 PM >
| | | Over the past two weeks, I've been out and about of a few drains...and located some others. Well, I have finally gotten around to uploading them photos. Drain #1 I affectionately call "O'Malley's Lair", after my bud O'Malley who tipped me off about it. Maybe not the best, but meh. It's a small RCP (mid-60s to early 70s built) that runs for about 100 meters from a grated outfall in the bluffs to a man-hole chamber. The chamber is pretty open & airy, and goes up for 'bout 20 feet, with a side-drain intercepting it halfway up. This goes on for aways to two more access chambers, but after ~200m becomes unwalkable. Entering chamber 1:

Me on the ladder:
I tried some light-painting....
Drain #2- Also a tip by a friend (beefy McFistpunch). More of a culvert than anything, and a short one at that (~200ft), however it is fairly interesting because it is almost exclusively stonework. Is located adjacent to the Scarborough Golf Club, so it has got to be at least 50+, more realistically 80+. The remainder is concrete, used within the last 20 years, to rebuild a collapsed segment. Found a bottle o' beer from the 50s, among tires and other things.... O'Malley loved this one. McFistpunch @ the infall:
The entry:
Beware them snotsickles, there be lots...
Candles + Long exposures + 3 Drainers= fun!
As a note, after the second-last picture, Beefy melted my jacket...by accident. Once again, we decided to try our hand at light painting:
Drain #3; Haven't entered it yet, but looks like the best so far!! It has an outfall just off of Manse road, and has a large "Danger- Stay Away!" sign about it. Is fed mainly by a tributary of Highland Creek. Would've loved to scout it out, but its a "night mission" only- too close to a road for any day activity. The outfall is a large swing-gate (note the fire extinguisher top right):
The outfall, as viewed from Manse:
Oh, and I located the infall too. Not to worry; from the outfall, many different other branches can be seen inside - it is not simply a linear system.
It should be noted that the outfall was carrying a much greater water flow that the infall - remember those branch drains? And a map of all three:
"Piperbrook" drain is the continuation of the Highland Creek watershed, but with a new outfall upstream.
Flush twice; it's a long way to the kitchen. |
