| | Question on a "No Trespassing, Police Orders" Sign < on 6/4/2010 7:20 PM >
| | | I've seen an abandoned building (of some sort) in the outskirts of a town that has at least one "No Trespassing, Police Orders" sign on it. Do you think it's probably just something that the owner put up to make it sound more intimidating or do you think the cops did.

NO TRESPASSING = something good beyond this point. I have NEVER seen a sign that could physically stop someone. I would think the owner put it up, unless you live in a small town, the cops wouldn't waste their time, they know that shit won't work. 99.9% of the time, those signs, are the only security measure, especially when the sign is that intimidating. MHO, I'm sure there will be others. I see a No Trespassing sign, I read come on in, there's something worth a sign in here!

| | | "No trespassing" implies "Police orders", because if No Trespassing signs are posted and you trespass, the police can arrest you. I'm guessing that this is the same thing as the old "Posted. No Trespassing." signs that one sees around sometimes. Well, duh it's "posted"... there's a goddamn sign... no need to use fancy language.

I've never seen a sign like that but I assume it's just the same as all the others. Even if the police didn't put it there they are still the ones to take action and arrest or ticket you. So it really doesn't matter, a trespassing sign is a trespassing sign. They all mean the same.

| | | doesn't matter either way a no trespassing sign or a fence will usually bump it up a level no matter what jurisdiction you're in go in anyway

| | | There's a good chance that it was just put up by the owners to keep trouble making teens out. That being said, if property is labeled as private or has a no trespassing sign, legally you can be charged with trespassing if caught. Not saying you will, just something to keep in mind. There's a good chance that if you are just in taking pictures, the police/owners/guards will just kick you out and give you a warning. That's my experience anyway.

strictly speaking, in most jurisdictions you can be charged with trespassing so long as you are on private property the presence of a sign or fence bumps it up a level e.g. in CO from a class something petty offense to a misdemeanor

| | | I've seen signs like that on sites where they are apparently abandoned and the police have attempted to secure them to get rid of an attractive nuisance, they use the wording "No trespassing by order of the Pittsburgh Police" like you can see in the upper right of this - http://picasaweb.g...-Q?feat=directlink
