| | | First post guys, be gentle... Decided to take a slightly different way home (saw cops, habitual avoidance) and discovered this wicked place: 1. 2.
3.
4. It was oddly deserted, as I'm about 75% sure its still functioning. It was about 430 on a Friday. Go figure. Anyway, its on the same grounds as this weird house-thing; not sure what the hell the concrete things are, but I'd bet they once held some sort of fuel tanks. It's surprisingly difficult to find information on any of there buildings, but I'm working on it. 5.
6.
7.
And last but not least, this guy, all off by his lonesome and literally welded shut. Which, naturally, means that we must have a look-see, but maybe not in broad daylight. 8.
9.
I'll be going back there quite soon to get into first buildings, then the welded one. But I'm having trouble prioritizing among these 3 and 3 other sites I've done light recon on. Oh well. More pics in a few days, as it's probably going to be storming for awhile and I don't want to be a lightning rod on top of a giant metal building. In Kansas.

| | | Nice one Impulse, welcome to you too ! Do you have any more info on the purpose of this place ? Is this an agricultural silo ? Also I noticed the NFPA sign on the derelict "house-thing" indicates pretty unhealthy and very flammable goods stored inside (probably some solvents, gasoline, ...). Are those black stains on the wall next to the window signs of a fire ?

| | | Yeah, there was def a fire there at some point. Looks like lightning, actually. I intended to find out what that sign meant before attempting entry at that particular location, but I've got a few others to see first lol. Thanks for the heads up though, as it honestly might have slipped my mind.

| | | Very, VERY NICE for a first post! Looks like you found yourself a gem! I don't thing that place is functioning anymore, what with that fire damage and empty concrete pylons (they used to hold horizontal tanks). Looking forward to more!

whatever they keep/kept in this building is EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. the numbers on that sign are the BAD ones Blue is heatlh hazard. #2 means that you can get hurt by constant exposure. scale of 0-4, 4 being the most hazardous red is fire hazard. #4 means it will burn at any temp or pressure. like, gasoline, propane, ether, etc. super combustable! yellow is how stable it is. 0 means it's stable at least. its nothing like sodium or potassium, so water wont cause a reaction. the white is the section where they add notes. i cant tell, but it looks like it say COR, which would mean its corrosive. that building probably stored alot of chlorine or some other caustic gas that is easily ignitable. be careful if you go in there
**EDIT:here, i found the list of codes for ya for future reference. i had to deal with these alot in the past, so i immediately know that the higher the number, the worse it is! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NFPA_704 [last edit 6/14/2010 1:45 AM by Durdan - edited 1 times]

| | | Holy crap. Honestly, that sign kinda put me off that building anyway, but its good to have that view confirmed, thanks. Gr8, thanks for the support, I have a ton of pics from a couple more sites, but I'm attempting not to over-post lol.

I think that's what gr8fzy1 was talking about here:
I don't think that place is functioning anymore, what with that fire damage and empty concrete pylons (they used to hold horizontal tanks). |
I've seen these too. You can see both the tank and the pylons (not very well) in this pic. I bet gr8fzy1 is right. These mean the location isn't active.
