High rise department store.

This is a location LaSonya and I stumbled upon walking around downtown for the powder keg festival in Buffalo. After doing an initial run on the place, we decided to come back when it was daylight and we had more time. When we came back about two weeks later the road running past was closed to cars for some sort of road work, and being a Sunday afternoon it was pretty dead making for an easy entrance. We made our way in and up the fire stairs and through the floors. The floors started out as your basic department store layout, which still had remnants of both the store and the crew that cleaned the place out years back, but as we got higher, we reached the main offices and penthouse, which appeared to have been inhabited at one point. Once we made it to the top floor, we got a great view of the surrounding city from the board room.

These are some of the pics LaSonya and I took from both runs we had at the place. The first 16 pics were taken by LaSonya, and the last 9 by myself.

Nice shots, it would have been interesting to see more of the interior though.

The last I heard (Dec 09) the building was supposed to be renovated into a Hilton hotel. But given that was almost 7 months ago, that could be dead in the water.

WTF indeed.

Sort of reminds me of a place I went to once. A couple months later, it collapsed. How tall was this one?

About 6-7 stories. Here are a couple exterior shots, posted mod-only because the OP didn't name the location, so I won't give it away....though anyone familiar with Buffalo should know if off the bat.

nine floors if i remember correctly. and as for the fate of this building the owner just renovated the one across the street into apartments and claims to have plans for ts one, however when we were last there no signs of progress were to be seen.

Good stuff! I love the escalators and the old fridge. Whats up with the dollar bill? lol. I wish you'd post the pictures directly instead of having them as a pop-up gallery though.

nice find! at least you made money while exploring, unless the dollar was placed there by you.

My thoughts exactly on all points. Escalator is my favorite part, I have yet to explore a skyscraper-style building in a downtown urban area. I have tended towards forgotten, off in the forest medium-sized buildings. But excellent job.

the dollar was there already. Placed by a previous explorer we're assuming. Must have been there quite a while though since there were no signs of anybody being in there for a long time

Lol, is the dollar still there?

Softly creeping through
Empty hallways decades old,
glimpsing history.

Adam, Meldrum & Anderson Company (AM&A's) was a chain of department stores based in Buffalo, New York. It was an institution to generations of shoppers in the Buffalo area. The company remained family owned until its sale to The Bon-Ton in 1994
