Bolton Montesorri Campus Exploration 3/08/2010

For those who saw my former thread on the location, me and Bltn_Xplor decided to check out the Bolton Campus of the Toronto Montesorri school earlier this week. Despite talk of developers on site and crazed Jamaican groundskeepers, the site was blessedly empty at our arrival. We did however see a truck parked on the grounds which we suspect is responsible for the recent stripping of all the piping from the interior. A working generator was also found. Pics below

Great pics, I'm gonna try and head out there again. Last time I went there were two police cruisers parked there

If your shooting with a P+S I can't recommend much, but the exposures seem off in some of them. My biggest suggestion would be pick 10-15 of the best shots you have to post, and not post so many next time. Sure you will leave something out, but less is more.

thanks for the advice, I have a shitty 150 dollar camera i've been using for years and no tripod, so point and shot was really my best option. plan on upgrading and getting a tripod too some time this year hopefully

I have a group of explorers visiting this weekend from Michigan and they wanted to check this place out. Anyone been down to Cold Creek Camp lately? Last time I was there was kicked out by the groundskeeper 15 minutes in....

Just curious if they are still kicking around - the trip for us is over an hour so don't want to waste anytime.

in the last posted picture, is the kid in the photograph rolling a joint?

They say "you can't judge a book by its cover!" I say "YES you can, if the cover has a girl on it with a cock in her mouth, its PORN!" if she's 18 and the cock is black, its GREAT porn!

is cold creek camp the one with the 2 or 3 boy scout buildings closed up? the one where you gotta park at the front gates where it says 'cold creek conservation area' then walk a good 15 minutes to get there? There's also a huge barn there too if this is the right place. Been there so many times, and never ran into anyone but other hikers.

There's a huge abandoned building/stable/structure just 5 minutes beyond the closed up chalets.. you gotta walk out into the woods then down a slight hill to get to it. You can easily get inside, too. Creepy as hell for sure. It's just sitting there in the middle of a huge field, but down in the valley a bit so you're really isolated.

The campground was a common spot to skip class and hangout in the cabins with friends when I was in school. I have many memories of hiding from owners and sneaking from cabin to cabin. There was another way in not sure how easy it would be now but it was by Humberview secondary school and was quite a long hike but always worth it. I think at one point a group of them had found a master key that opened many doors..... Wondering where that would be now haha

There were others around the building, actually, in the section that used to be the library there was a huge pile of pictures of the former students and all sorts of info on them in binders, and all over the floor

Homes approved for Hi-Lands of Bolton

2010-12-23 / Front Page
By Bill Rea

It’s now townhouses with a couple of detached lots that have been approved for the Hi-Lands of Bolton site on the village’s north hill. Caledon councillors last Wednesday approved an amendment to the Town’s Official Plan to change the designation for the land on the former Toronto Montessori School property to low and medium density residential, along with slight adjustments to the boundaries of the Bolton Settlement area. The proposals for the site have seen a number of changes over the last several months. Previous plans to put in highrise, high-density development with a hotel and conference centre component have been dropped. The conceptual plan for the site now calls for four detached homes on a cul-de-sac adjacent to Crestridge Drive in the northwest corner of the property, and 163 three-storey townhouse units.

That seemed to satisfy a lot of the concerns that had been raised about the proposal.

In a written submission to council, Hi-Lands of Bolton Action Committee Chair Jonathan Kirk stated they were pleased with the changes, although some concerns remain. The cul-de-sac at Crestridge is supposed to provide an emergency access to the property (the main access is slated to be off Caledon — King Town Line), but Kirk said there are still concerns that there will be pressures from residents of the development to open it up to through traffic, resulting in increased traffic on the area streets. He also requested the site plan process for the development be opened up to the public.

Neighbouring property owner Cat Cybulski thanked Town staff for listening to the community concerns, adding she hoped the openness on this issue will continue, because she observed that there’s still a lot to do.

She too asked that the site plan process be open to public review and comment.

As well, Cybulski was concerned about the quality and safety of the local well water.

Mayor Marolyn Morrison said council plans to send a letter to Peel Region, asking them to look into that.

Director of Planning and Development Mary Hall added there are traditionally conditions on developments like this requiring the monitoring of private wells next to the site, and that will be the case this time.

Planning consultant Paul King, representing the developer, pointed out there will be mechanisms for the public to comment and object during the site plan process.

He also observed that Solmar Development Corp. has made some submissions regarding the boundary adjustments. King observed that what was approved last week was not an expansion of the Bolton settlement area, but just a “refinement to the boundary,” that was called for in the Town’s Official Plan. He added the Bolton Secondary Plan contained a schedule that said 4.2 hectares was available for development there, ands this plan is only going to take 3.8 hectares. He also said the changes to the configuration is due to errors in mapping.

Addressing the site plan process, Councillor Richard Paterak said control of that has been delegated to staff, and he didn’t want council getting involved. “We can be softies on occasion,” he remarked, adding things are in better hands with staff.

Hall added there will have to be a rezoning, which is always a public process, and all the plans will have to be in place by that point, so the public will be able to see what’s going to go where.

Hall also said there are already numerous complaints that the site plan process takes too long. She suggested the developers meet with the public during the rezoning process to discuss the site plan.

Paterak also expressed disappointment over the lack of variety of housing types in the proposal. He had been hoping for apartments, observing there is a demand for them, particularly from residents interested in downsizing. “We need a variety of housing styles in our community,” he stated.

Senior Town Planner Eric Conley explained the settlement boundaries are being adjusted so they can coincide with the Provincial Greenbelt on the east side and the top of bank and environmental buffer to the west. He added the planned densities are consistent with what’s in the northeast part of Bolton.

Conley said the development is expected to be a condominium, meaning the internal road network is going to remain private. The emergency access point at Crestridge is only going to be six metres wide, so it could never be used as a through way.

He told Councillor Rob Mezzapelli it will be up to the condominium corporation to maintain the emergency access, including snow clearing.

Councillor Allan Thompson was concerned about parking. He said there are developments where garages are too small. “There’s no way you can get a car in unless you have a Smart Car,” he remarked, adding visitor parking needs to be addressed too.

Conley told him and Councillor Gord McClure that they are still just working with a concept plan. They don’t have that level of detail yet, but it will be looked at.
