| | | As with most things, it should really be about quality over quantity. If you know 30 competent, cool-headed, trust-worthy people, then it could work.....but most people tend to keep a tighter knit group than that.

| | | Usually 2 - 4 but it's been well over 10 on a few occasions. Almost never explore alone.

I have gotten friends and coworkers to go along with exploring but they're not really explorers. They aren't usually up for a repeat. I took a coworker climbing cell towers, he said he'd do it again, and then he moved away.
|
I didn't think there would be many explorers at McDonalds, to be honest.
Through this website and other like minded individuals ... it's like Penn of Penn & Teller said: "The reason we have such a long term successful professional relationship is because when we're not working together we never associate, we lead very different personal lives." I don't call other explorers up to go see a movie or to go to the mall (I hate malls anyways). "Yo. Let's go climb/infiltrate ________"
|
So you're saying when brand new and knowing nothing it's better to go everywhere with/and trust/ complete strangers than it is to take a friend or two? I think most explorers on here are friends with people they explore with, otherwise why would you be comfortable going out with them?
Likewise I don't expect my boss or coworkers to come trudge through swamps, pricker bushes, poison ivy looking for an alternative route into moderately secure places.
|
I don't remember there being a question of taking work associates with you, it seems ridiculous to just take random people from work, especially those who aren't friends. This makes no sense.
My answer is: I'm more comfortable in a small group of people I know fairly well. I feel safe knowing they wont in any way harm me and in knowing they have a background in exploring. New people on this site can be wildcards - loud, crazy, etc. Not that old people can't be too, but then you're likely to hear about it Do what's most comfortable!

| | | Even though I'm a minor (15), I do pretty much everything alone. I'm not some sort of psychopathic loner, I'm much better at taking charge of my own thoughts and actions when I'm by myself. Plus I can talk to myself and nobody will mind.
Oh good, my slow clap processor made it into this thing. |

| | | Usually with one or two people, though I don't mind exploring by myself. The only issue I have about exploring alone is safety. I'd much rather explore with someone else if I'm going to a new location, and then if I feel comfortable with the site, I'll go it alone. On the plus side of being by yourself, you can take all the time in the world taking photos. I often feel "rushed" when I'm with other people and trying to get shots at the same time.

| | | Before I knew about this site i was usually on my own. Some of the places were really stupid to explore alone for safety reasons but I didnt think anyone else did what I did (ignorance is bliss?). Now, 2-4 sounds comfortable.

| | | I used to do the group exploration thing, every weekend between 3 and 10 people. It was nice to have the "security" (even if it was only a perceived security) of a group when I first started out. But I soon felt comfortable and the drama between group members far outweighed the companionship. Once I got away from the group my explorations felt much more... personal.

| | | Never by myself - not just because it'd be creepy but I also think it would be dangerous. As for a larger group, I think there comes a point when there are just too many to be practical... we are supposed to be a quiet and respectful group after all and larger groups just can't accomplish that.

| | | Would love to explore solo but too scared to do so, because i think it's not safe. I prefer going with one or two really good friends. We need to have same interests (photography), because when i visit a place, i like to take my time, and not be in a hurry. [last edit 11/5/2010 9:10 PM by Nikkor - edited 1 times]
