Now that I'm more aware of this TSA campaign I think I'm going to start donning my old security guard uniform on more photoshoots. Shit, I still have my security license, why the hell not abuse it a little. :B

We didn't need a story. We didn't need a real world. We just had to keep walking. And we became the stories, we became the places. We were the lights, the deserts, the faraway worlds. We were you before you even existed.

So, my cousin who is in the US Air Force was leaving today for more training and was patted down and searched, IN UNIFORM, by TSA. What is this country coming to?

Apparently our country's heading in the wrong direction. Why would they pat down and search a person in uniform? That's a complete lack of respect and trust on their part, looks like they don't trust nobody these days.

The searches have to be random, and just because someone is in uniform does not mean that they belong to the Armed Forces. Hell look at the posts people are throwing in this very thread. 1 person just stated that he may as well use his old security uniform to go exploring.

I know that very recently here in Phoenix, there was a rash of home invasions by people wearing police uniforms. they would knock on doors and tell people they were looking into suspicious activity in the neighborhood, and when people answered the door, they came in tied them up and took everything. Another guy outfitted his car with lights and sirens, got a uniform, and was pulling people over. He would take money and credit cards from people he "searched" and 2 women were raped by the douchebag.

Yeah, it sucks that our military people have to be searched too when they are enroute to put themselves in harms way for us, but you never know. That is what this world has come to. And by the way, thank her for her service.

Blah Blah Blah. Shut up and open the damn door.

That's what they'd like you to believe. I remember being directed to a secondary inspection area a suspiciously high percentage of times between 2006-2007.

Quit smuggling heroin in your anal cavity, and this will not happen. (jk)

did you have a bad run in with someone? One petty arsehole could ruin it by putting you on a watch list, or, it could have been an actual coincidence. how many times were you searched that it constitutes a high number of times? how many times did you travel? if you are out there every week that would give you a higher percentage chance of being stopped and searched. Also, if you do a LOT of traveling in and out of the country, that can get you placed on a list, as well as where you travel to. Location combined with frequency and you could have triggered one of the alerts.

Of course, I could just be grasping at straws.

+1

IIRC, the underwear bomber took quite the beating as well.

I'd highly caution against doing anything at any airports, even the shitty little regional ones that are scattered and only deal with private planes and the occasional small "regional" aircraft (think BigAirlineName Express). I fly at least one round-trip a month, if not two or three and there is just no sense of humor with it. One of those experiences where you just have to lean over and take it up the chuff from some high school dropout with a 4-hour security training certificate under his or her unusually powerful belt.

I suppose it helps to quietly remind yourself you're dealing with chronic underachievers who don't really know or understand why they're doing this other than it's a job function. You will run across the occasional power hungry ass pimple who is just out to make people uncomfortable, but never be afraid of asking for a supervisor if you feel you're being harassed. They won't do much but it'll make the pea brained blue shirt, agent of harassment, think twice before he starts f-ing with the general public again.

I know one thing, I've never felt any safer after a security check point.

Oh, fun fact, I unknowingly boarded over four flights with a small handful of 22LR rounds in my backpack (as a carry on bag), in three different states. I use my normal backpack for camping and they were loose rounds. No one said shit, I found them a week or so after traveling and my stomach dropped to the floor.

Oh and if this at all offends anyone here because they work at an airport, I mean to only speak in generalizations and of my experiences. YMMV and if the shoe fits, wear it.

There is a small municipal airport near me in York Region and it is surrounded by several businesses. One of these companies has a couple of picnic tables that are aprox 5 feet from the perimeter fence of the airport where employees can sit. I have often been there myself in evening hours just to sit and watch aircraft as they depart and arrive. NOT ONCE have I ever been questioned by any authority relating to the airport as to my purpose for being there.I have been there countless times and still frequent the location. I had a security guard from the business its self ask me once but after a short conversation and an explanation that I was here to just study (true), he left me alone and vacated the property all together. Quite often the pilots on the taxi way wave... they dont seen concerned.

You were probably put on SSSS, aka "selected for secondary security screening," its done by the computer. It happens when using someone elses credit/debit card to buy the ticket, or you buy tickets the night before the flight, make changes in the reservation, youre on a watchlist, or you get rebooked from a cancelled flight.

I was branded SSSS for two years, after my dad accidentally brought a toy gun with us through Canadian security on the way back to the U.S.

That's good to know. I let friends/family use my credit card all the time to buy plane tickets (tying to build up those frequent flyer miles) and I don't think anyone has been hassled YET. I just let someone buy tickets for November so I'll give her a warning.

how many times were you searched that it constitutes a high number of times? how many times did you travel?

I was traveling to and from southwest Missouri to visit my girlfriend. Round trip, four times, plus the time during one of those trips where I got stuck in Minneapolis-St. Paul overnight, spent a few hours sleeping in a hotel, then got a secondary screening on my way back in. I can't pinpoint the number of times, but it was around 50%.

The tickets were being bought with my mother's debit card, as I didn't have one of my own at the time (she was paid back ), and three out of the four times that I visited, I had to reschedule because I showed up at the airport too late to catch my flight.
