| | | You wouldn't want to breathe it in? Great pics, MrMensa! For those interested, it was a five alarm fire. Many of the fire trucks in your pictures have been replaced, too.

| | | I'm amazed so much of the building survived with a fire like that... I'm going to miss this place when it's gone.

| | | I had always just assumed it was abandoned before the fire. IIRC, it was arson, likely the same guy who set fire to the food oil factory next to it twice, and some other local places. What ever happened with that? Did they catch the guy?

| | | I knew it was big, but five alarm? Dayum. And from the looks of it, that thing did not want to be put out. At least it must have smelled tasty!

That's what it seems like. From Toronto Fire's website: "St. Clair Avenue West – November 6, 2006 This five alarm blaze occurred at the New York Pork meatpacking plant at approximately 6:30 a.m. This fire was made more difficult given that several walls around the first floor meat storage areas were lined with eight inches of cork, covered with Styrofoam, and were completely inaccessible. The fire finally came under control at approximately 11:00 p.m. that night, with crews remaining on scene to extinguish hidden pockets of flame and assist in the investigation until 5:00 p.m. on November 10." It was also just added to TFSpics.com today, and there's more info there. The pics are MrMensa's, and I imagine John Hanley's will be added soon too. http://www.tfspics...Q#1170635482_XJE2R [last edit 1/30/2011 3:40 AM by Ricecracker - edited 1 times]
