First Explore: Kodak 9

My first exploration was earlier this year on April 2nd, 2010. It is the Kodak building, apparently they've sealed most entrances. at least the one that i entered from.
My friend and I nearly were very intrigued with the building, almost falling through a door from the second floor that lead to a now demolished building. We also had a fear of squatters pushing us over and stabbing us to death, but otherwise it was an amazing experience. We managed to get to the roof

Anyways, here are some photos

please check them out

You've got a nice set of pictures there, Jason. Kodak Bldg. 9 was also my first explore.

The original complex had between 10-20 buildings ranging from offices to packing and distribution buildings to this one, the staff rec centre. This is the only building still standing.

I doubt it. From what I know, the complex was closed in 2006, and the other buildings demolished in the summer of '07. It's an interesting place, but I wouldn't put it at the top of my list.

oh, its not even close to the top of my list! I've already covered the majority of the top of my DOABLE list.. I just wanna do this out of curiosity, and cuz it seems pretty easy, straightforward, and a good place to get some photography practice in

Love the contrasty black and white there.

I've actually shot a roll of Kodak Film here. And I've shot a roll of film that was made at the old Kodak Plant.

Hey Jason, it's your friendly neighborhood alumni, glad you're posting.

Toronto in the daylight isn't too scary, so have no fear of evil scrappers. Nothing left in Kodak to scrap anyway.

Photos are okay, just watch where your camera focuses, some of these seem oddly soft. A tripod would help that though. Also, your last photo is a blown out window, maybe try shooting what the window is lighting instead of just the window. I know there's some interesting glass brick windows in there that are cooler to shoot than just open windows. Keep practicing.

That is just awesome. Would be even cooler if you took those shots at the plant, ha.

I would have...if the building was more interesting and worthy of being captured on Kodachrome 25.

Actually I wouldn't be too surprised. I don't know the reasoning behind it staying when the rest of the plant was demolished, but it's gotten a lot of bad attention because of a few nice sized fires from arson. I can't imagine the neighbourhood enjoys it much.

As for the pictures - it's a nice set, but I'd definitely recommend using a tripod next time you go exploring. The natural lighting in abandoned places can sometimes make for amazing photos. This set really makes me wanna go back to this place and take some better shots.

Any word if this is still up / reasonably accessible? Tips would be hugely appreciated.

I've been 3 times. Twice is was completely accessible, like, swiss cheese. The third it looked all sealed off and then you walk around the building once and you see something you can't believe. Instead of pulling off WOOD and NAILS somebody has pried open a metal-fucking-door. I have the strictest belief that until the building burns down, or is demolished, there will always be somebody tearing the crap out of it to get inside. (Why? I don't know.) But hey, prove me wrong.

And i don't think they ever attempted to seal the utility tunnel. Watch out for rebar though.

Was there this afternoon. Very cold! Although I did manage to see an unwrapped version of Lotus 123 from 1991!

Kodak is always open, and almost always on fire. That's just how it rolls.

But seriously.

Do the utility tunnels lead to the basement? I never went down there because the ground floor was partially flooded and very moldy. I figured the basement would only be worse...

The utility tunnel is IN the basement, it used to lead to the adjacent building. mold=bad respirator=good
