A minimalists UE gear. The bare minumum.

Hey folks. God knows I have already jumped all over folks for bringing along thier satellite dishes, radar towers, and bear repellent. I'm going to throw out here what I take with me. Hopefully get this along to new folks in the community (that aren't financially backed by a foreign government) so that they know they don't need alot to do this. Feel free to add whatever you feel is actually mandatory and if you put something up as a joke, make it obvious so no one takes you seriously when you say you go draining in a speedo. As always. if I say something on here insanely stupid, I trust that the community as a whole will jump on me like a pack of rabid dogs to help me keep from doing that in the future.

Boots
I wear what would be defined as "military style" boots. The reason for it? I've worn them boots for ten years, they're hard to tear up, and they provide good ankle support when climbing over rubble and such.

Pants
Despite what anyone else around here may say, you need pants. I live in Tennessee. So there aren't many places you can go that don't have vegetation. And I feel no need to have poison ivy, a thorn, or a rusty nail dragging across my junk. I stick with blue jeans just because they're some of the tougher stuff to penetrate, offer decent protection without encasing your lower half in plate mail, and cover all the way down to where your boots should then be picking up protection.

A belt
I know. Might sound dumb to include this in mandatory stuff but I do. I fell off a trail one time when the ground under me fell away and I was able to get my belt off and loop it around a few places higher than where I landed to get myself back up to the trail. Plus it'll make a handy tourniquet in a pinch. While I won't advocate bringing a whole first aid kit with you, a belt is just something handy that won't really affect anything your doing.

A shirt
T-shirt in the summer. Long shirts in the winter. Seems pretty simple.

A flashlight
If it is dark out or where your going is going to have dark places, you might want one of these. Stick it in your back pocket and your good to go.

A camera
Hey, most folks here will tell you, no pictures, it didn't happen. (Same rule applies if you come with me to a titty bar) This isn't something I really deem as mandatory but since I already know this is going to be the first thing other people add to this, I figured I would go ahead and do it.

Common sense
"Hmm... That floor looks like it is ready to give way. Probably shouldn't try and walk on it."

And congrats! That's all you really need. Anything other than this stuff is based on personal preference. Now I personally even carry more than this. But in the end, this is all I really need. And pretty much all of it besides clothes are things you can throw in your car for when you do find a spot at random to go explore.

So at least for now, I'm done. Anyone else got anything?

On the belt I know that people often recommend the cloth-style belts that can be sized anyway you wish. Primarily in the event you need to use it as a tourniquet.

I would also recommend bringing water along on the trip. Not only to keep you hydrated but also to clean your hands, a wound, etc.

If it rusts I will find it

Okay, sorry if I offended you earlier -- let me rephrase everything.

Internal communication devices
External communication devices
Mapping and Navigation devices
Environmental devices
Clothing

First priority is to have an open line of communication with the other members in your party, I would NEVER go alone, these buildings are too dangerous. Also, I have a person back at a home base who knows our whereabouts and has an ear in for weather and enforcement (the spotter in my system).

In my system the spotter NEVER goes in unless there is a first aid emergency, because they will be the one to actually break the barrier so that the people on the inside have a defense to accusations of B&E and the spotter can claim color of right.

Mapping devices come in handy to mark locations for personal use as well as preventing people from getting lost. With prisons, having a GPS comes in handy as you can make a waypoint at the entrance and then every time you turn a corner, as they are mazes.

Environmental devices vary from location to location, these are your protective gear like masks and gloves.

Clothing changes based on the weather and location as well. It varies on how remote it is and if you want to blend in or have something that is functional and you can maneuver with.

Myself, I prefer a pair of breezy short shorts.

...For real though, I love wearing (regular) shorts during summer explores because I sweat like a pig most of the time in jeans, and shorts help me to not overheat and become dehydrated (as I always forget to bring water along). Plus they're less restrictive on movement.

I'd rather get cut by a bunch of rusty nails than have to walk around in a ridiculously hot pair of jeans.

Oh you didn't offend me. Hell, I would be highly surprised if anyone here were able to actually offend me. I was just saying you needed to have thicker skin. People are going to disagree with you. And they are going to be vocal about it. You just have to let it roll off of you or see the humor in it and then wait for your chance to get them.

But I will also say, you have only given them more ammunition for thier witty arsenal. Home base? Spotters? And what in the hell is color of right? I'm trying to help you out here. Help me, help you.

It's okay. Cucumbers are edible, so it's not like anything is going to waste.

Of course the only way to get a camera into a titty bar is to UER your way in*. Cell phone use will get you kicked out of a titty bar (because of the shitty 1.3MP camera in it) and the bouncer will break you phone...so good luck with the DSLR.

The bare minimum? Whatever I happen to have on me at the time. If it's just keys, wallet, cell phone, then that's what I'm running with. If I plan out an expedition I always forget to bring something important, if I bring lots of stuff I always lose something, hell I usually lose or break something anyways; I'm horrible at bringing all my stuff back in one piece.

Jeff Chapman said in Access All Areas the reason he's seen so many places is it was jumping on every opportunity and he didn't wait and so he could go back later with a camera to find the door locked or POE blocked.

I agree. The rest of that stuff is generally stuff that I already keep in my truck. So it's stuff I always have with me.
