|  | | | I am starting a thread that is supplementary to UE. I will cover worst case scenarios that you may encounter while exploring, some are extreme but I will try and keep it in the realm of realism/plausibility.
This thread will be a mix of my own work, some copied articles and contributions from people who are experts in a related field (infiltration, social engineering, first aid, diplomacy).
Topics will range from how to handle being held at gunpoint to how to deal with protruding intestines. I will declare that my two specialties are communication (currently taking a BA in communication) and first aid (I have my SFA w/ CPR-C, first aid instructors and will be going for my HCP shortly).
Look in this thread for my first article soon, it is being prepared...
Also, if you think you are an expert, please post you WCS articles as well.

These articles assume a dead cell phone, a single layer of outerwear for clothing and no bystanders.
The scenario that I put before you is one that I have dealt with before albeit not as extreme. Someone slips on a stairwell and breaks their spine.
The first thing you do is evaluate the area, what I go by is:
-NO fire
-NO wire
-NO gas
-NO glass
I am looking for anything that may farm me or my victim. If there is anything that would make it so that two lives are at risk instead of one you do not proceed. after putting on improvised gloves, you assess your victim for spinal, the most tell tale signs are bumps and bruising on the neck, fluid from the ears and pooling of cerebral fluid.
Only then do you contact EMS, with this being a WCS, you would have to find a payphone, instruct the victim not to move as you head out.
With 999, 112 or 911 (depending on location) you need to describe the:
WHO -- victim age, gender and type (IE adult male with a suspected spinal)
WHAT -- service needed
WHERE -- the location
HOW -- mechanism of injury
WHEN -- time of incident (IE found 2-3 minutes ago)
Once you return to the victim you assess vitals, I use the acronym ABC:
Airway -- is breathing unobstructed
Breathing -- is there breathing, what is the quality (IE shallow, fast...)
Circulation -- is there a pulse what is the quality
If there is vital signs DO NOT MOVE THE VICTIM, head movement of as little as 3cm (just over one inch) would be sufficient to have a broken bone cut into a major vein or artery.
If your victim is VSA then he or she needs to be moved, and that's where things get interesting... TBC

In your scenario where did yo start your primary survey and where did you start your secondary survey?

I am also now a Lifesaving Sport Coach.
Primaries take priority, it is better to have a permanently injured victim than a dead one, as you will see from the continuation of this scenario. You do primaries every 5-10 minutes, if there is no more treatment to do, then you do secondary assessments.

If you wish to perform first aid, consult a recognised first aid information source (hint: not UER) or/and do a first aid course. It's not hard and it's not expensive.
