wondering if anyone has any background info on this house?

I drive by it every day, it seems it's of some historical significance but there hasn't been any activity around it for a couple of years.

The old address is:

28 Pike Lane (formerly 9451 9th Line)
http://www.omb.gov...040524_%231635.pdf

It's a Heritage building owned by Markham now.

This is the Peter Pike house. The Peter Pike house was built with a Gothic Revival architectural style, in 1880 on a 200 acres lot{Lot 17, concession 9). Peter Pike was born in Markham Township in 1826. Apparently in 1828 the land was deeded to King's College, then in 1841 they sold it to a Jacob Marr.

And yes it is

yeah I always like to know the history behind what I'm exploring as well. There's also a house just down the road a bit. Did you notice that one?

Yup they sure are!
They both are sitting in the exact same spot from when they were built.

The first house is the "Josephus Reesor Tenant House", built in 1855 with cut fieldstone. The original Georgian style house built as a 3 bays, by 2 bay with rectangular openings. In later years there was a single level and garage{built from wood framing} added to the stone house.

The second house is also considered the "Josephus Reesor Tenant House". However it is believed that the labourers from the Reesor farm lived in this house. Built in the 1870's this cottage style house was similar to the other "Tenant House", 3 bays by 1 bay and hasn't changed much over all these years.

Now surrounded by a huge sub-division, and with the expanding "Box Grove" it's only getting bigger.

It's so weird, I can recall even just five years back that east of 9th Line and south of Hwy 7 was just farmland with the occasional old house (and Hwy 407). Now it's a whole new town, with its own Walmart and lap dance parlours!

ahahahhaha true

Box Grove has really expanded rapidly as a community in the last view years. The construction of the cookie cutter homes, big box stores and the Donald Cousens Parkway has been a result of many old farm land and houses vacated and closed/boarded up.

Markham is so pissed off at Toronto because the original intent was to enable southbound Markham residents to commute to Toronto via the Donald Cousens Parkway via a connection to Morningside Avenue. Toronto balked at such a connection so drivers will still have to make those annoying jogs along Steeles Avenue to join up with Markham Road.

There is gas pockets on that farm. There were wells or pipes dug into the ground to see if there was any feasible way of getting it out of the ground.

Id have to get the full story but not sure if its interesting enough. I know a tad about that house and farm.

Just a little.

I was there when we buried Hoffa outside Terlingua.
Have the shovel to prove it

Just wanted to know how you found that out? Very interesting. Especially since I spent a lot of time in the house and on the property as a kid (best friend at the time lived there) and I remember concrete ditches throughout the fields behind the house - probably not related, but curious.

5th line in Oakville between Steeles Avenue and Lower Base Line is littered with abandoned houses

reminds me a lot of the pickering airport lands
