| | | No one’s Home, cause it’s No one’s Home < on 2/11/2011 10:18 PM >
| | | While doing some locale & family history for a video, came across these places. One burnt down… sad for the family, also hope it wasn’t the 175yr old house I’m trying to find. Have to go back when the snow’s gone. 1) Little unnerving when the first thing you see when you walk in are knives and a pitchfork in the kitchen, & they’re the only things out.
2) Probably burn the bodies in here…
3) Then spread the ashes down here (bottom right is basement door)…
4) Or here…
5) Looks pleasant here, though…
6) Anyone know why the fancy shaped out building? My theory: local families went to each other’s house for school and church (circa 1850)
7) Behind the burnt down house, this sits in the creek. …gotta go back after all the snow’s gone!
8)
9)
10) Gnome home.

I don't think so. Probably just a wealthy family with a (formerly) nicely landscaped property that they were proud of. I hate to see houses like this go to ruin.

| | | You find some pretty cool stuff, I've wanted to head to PA for some time. Houses may be small but they're so intimate...each one has a part of the people in it's air. It's always a downer to see something totally fall to pieces. Falling down is one thing. But dissolving hurts to see. Also, that's not snow. Come to NH/MA and we'll talk :p

| | | Agreed, tis a shame. One of the living rooms still had furniture in it, beautiful fireplaces, etc. Don’t know that they were unusually wealthy, though, it’s pretty typical of the era homes in the area. The reason I was thinking home church/school is that there’s a large population of Mennonite in the area, and the closest church is German reformed. Well, there was a meeting house at the time too. The structure has a cupola that could have house a bell. There were also religious symbols on the inside of the door that didn’t look like graffiti, but course it could be old graffiti. Thought maybe inlaws quarters, but didn’t have a fireplace. It’s a mystery. I really wanted to go in the basement as well, but the front door was open and I don’t like large R.O.U.S. or skunks. I’ll take asbestos & sulfuric acid any day over rats.

Wife’s from upstate NY; I was stationed there in the 80’s & we lived near Jay Peak for about 10 years. I’d of rather lived in NH!! 3’+ every year, and snow thru Easter! Week w/o power during the ’98 ice storm. No plans on going back!

| | | No one answered the door, so I guess it’s OK to photo ?!? Another pre-Civil War home; note the “trees” supporting the floor in the basement!

| | | Cool, you're lucky to find such antique homes. I get early 1900's at best. Water in the basement always creeps me out big time...I've got a phobia of nasty water. One place I was in had three feet of water in the basement and I saw it through the window before entering. I kept that in mind at all times as I paced the floorboards
