Abandoned Building on an Abandoned Road

This is another place I found in a small town in southwestern NY last summer. I think its an old car wash. I found it riding my bike on a road that looks like it was a part of the town that was deserted long ago. Its mostly just foundations and a couple large concrete tanks I have no idea about. Perhaps they are part of the rail station that was abandoned nearby

Thanks, I was really surprised that they turned out so well, I did almost all the shots of this place with my cell phone, I was gonna take my backpack with my exploring stuff, but that day was over 100 degrees and humid, so I changed my mind last minute.

Whoa, cool enough as is but those giant concrete vats tip the scale. Why the hell are they elevated--imagine the disaster when that all breaks.

Thanks, and thats what I am trying to figure out. I have no idea what they were for. All I can guess was they had to do with what looked like a good size rail yard that used to be there

Thanks, creepiest part was getting the shots of those concrete tanks, I heard this weird noise ans some rustling, then a huge crow flies at me, and drops what looked like a half eaten either big dove or pigeon almost at my feet. I admit I gagged and lost interest at trying to climb up the tanks at that time.

I would be weary of any covered holding tanks made of layered concrete, but thats just me... The reactor that caused the Chernobyl meltdown is covered in a concrete sarcophagi, to keep the radiation in... Or it could just be rain water.

They are open on the top as far as I can tell. And there are no nuclear power plants here. I could be wrong, but I think the nearest one to this are is Three Mile Island. This is like Hicksville area here

Never mind the tanks, whats the building in the background in number 9? It looks a lot like an institutional building like a school. And old.

Its not, and believe me I noticed and am keeping an eye for a way inside. It is a large train station. Its been locked up past few times I have been there, but I have heard that there are times that it'll be missing a lock, so I will get in and explore it, but ATM the snow and cold has things on hold.

Oooooooh I LOVE spots like this that are secluded and rural. They are wonderful to sleep at.

If you would be so kind as to PM about where this is, I would like to go see it in the spring. It is very very interesting looking and reminds me of the old water filtration plant we used to have here in town. Sadly it got tore down for college housing =(

Looks like there are plenty of windows to crawl into. You just need a way up. Next time bring a grappling hook on your bike.

better yet just bring a friend thats willing to boost you up. ones your up on that roof it'll be easy and it doesnt look taller than 12 feet. if you in any form of decent shape it shouldnt be that hard to pull your self up the rest of the way.

The Misandry around these parts is redonkulous. Sorry I was born with male anatomy.

That thought had crossed my mind except for the condition of the roof in the spots that his would be possible didn't look very promising, plus the front and one side of the roof is toward one of the main streets of the town, and not a half block from the site that the furniture factory was burned on, and that is still guarded by at least 4 tribal marshals at all times. The other side of the building faces an apartment building and like the pics, the roof of the place can be seen on all four sides. And when I explore around here I am flying solo. A door or downstairs window would be best, plus not knowing the condition of the floors.... I am betting that this place is like the furniture factory, bricks walls outside, everything else wood. I plan to go in, there have been times that locks were missing, and doors open. When I am exploring alone, I tend to be far more careful than when Im with others.

Love these. It's fun knowing there's still places in our over-populated Northeast that still sit out there forgotten by time.

Thanks, and I agree, it really socked me when I saw these, that are literally on main street in this small town, less than a block from busy streets. This whole are I live in is still fairly rural and small town
