Interesting to see a video {documentary style} of this old grist mill. Very odd to see someone exploring around with bare feet. Cavemen were once secluded to caves. Then they were released, they were released to explore the world! www.flickr.com/photos/vitalfilms1

I was thinking the exact same thing. Thats tetanus / AIDS / Herpes just waiting to happen. Woefully impractical, especially in an urban / industrial type setting. www.tohellandback.net

Yep, very interesting "documentary". I've been there and it's not exactly industrial so barefoot would be doable if you're into that kind of stuff I guess. http://www.flickr....otos/c_rouge/sets/

...because shoes have been available since the World started turning?
no, of course not, but intelligent civilizations have been using them for centuries and they've undoubtedly helped us progress as a species. People have been covering their feet for protection from the elements since the beginning of human times. In many climates it makes the difference between life and death. Everyone from the ancient Egyptians to the northern inuit have clad their feet in protective garments. It makes life easier, safer and more comfortable.
Of course this guy's free to do whatever he likes, but yea, I think wandering abandoned buildings (or inhabited ones too for that matter) in barefeet is just plain foolish. nails, rebar, glass, sharp stones, syringes, scrap metal, splinters, chemicals, snakes, spiders - the list of dangerous things you're likely to encounter are significant. It just makes sense to protect yourself. We're not African tribesmen wandering some barren Savannah, we're in Ontario in 2011. There are starving Nigerians who'd quite literally shoot you in the face for the shoes off your feet, and this dudes gallivanting around without them like some hippie in the mud at woodstock.
Understandable (in regards to everything you said). And for people that haven't been walking barefoot for years and years I wouldn't suggest they do it around a abandoned Grist Mill.

During the War of 1812 Grist mills were rather important to the British Army, and thus were prime targets for Americans...the Darnly Grist mill was the only one to survive the war. Celer at Audax Para la Victoria Siempre Alemanes!
