| | Looking for Old Industrial Hamilton < on 1/3/2012 2:04 AM >
| | | Hi, I am new to the forums and I would appreciate your help. I am a student film maker doing a documentary on Hamilton's industrial past. I would like to make a list of abandoned industrial sites that I can do some time lapse videography with. It would add significant depth to my project. I am looking for anything involving industrial manufacturing, possibly with any equipment left in it. I have browsed the forum but have found a lot of sites that have either been demolished or are being repurposed (ie Lister Block, Century Theatre). Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am on a pretty tight schedule and it would save countless hours of searching. Thank You in advance

I was there in Nov. Entry is mildly creative for the boiler house, not the main warehouse and offices ;)

| | | Firestone is your best bet and probably the only thing left in the entire city that is both abandoned and accessible. In the last 5 years countless amounts of buildings in Hamilton have either been restored, demolished or otherwise rendered inaccessible. Don't go wandering up during the middle of the day, as you will notice that the property is surrounded by a variety of very active industrial facilities. It may be very difficult to gain entry during the day. Good luck with your project.

was just at the boiler house last week, and unless there was a POE I missed for the main building, the accessiblility for both was the same (a little challenge, but nothing crazy).

Access to the main building is pretty easy to figure out once you're there, it's getting on the property that a little trickier. [last edit 1/3/2012 11:02 PM by sQualie - edited 2 times]

| | | I get it. It's a new game....let's give the name of one of the best locations in the country and discuss the POE in response to a stranger with one post. I think I'll pass on this game today. Too bad this wasn't in the Northeast board.

I am not sure how many of these buildings are still there, but this Wiki will give you an idea of the history of the industrial businesses in Hamilton. I think Case I.H. and Westinghouse are still there.

seriously though, a monkey with access to Google could find the name of it in 5 seconds flat. and the only POE that sQualie was discussing was a big gaping hole... how is that information a secret? you didn't "want to play the game" and yet, couldn't resist giving people crap for it. funny how things like that work on UER....

Thanks Abandoned-Echoes! Seriously, getting into the main building is about the easiest thing in the world because it's covered in POEs, however getting on the property is a whole other ball game and I've mentioned nothing to that effect nor will I. It's not like I divulged the alarm code to an active location, it's Firestone for F's sakes! It's been abandoned for over 15 years and sadly, it isn't that great anymore. | | | In any case, the POE thing is moot. It's not always the same and the biggest challenge is getting on the property anyway. No sense getting the panties all twisted up. In reference to paulbrec's post, I think the last of the International Harvester buildings disappeared over 5 years ago. The Westinghouse administrative building still exists at Barton and Sanford. Good luck getting in that one, I've had my eye on it for years. The Lifesavers candy building also exists but I'm almost certain that they are doing something with it now and the place is most likely secured very well.

| | | It's all pretty irrelevant now since the Firestone Tire Factory is under active demolition. Sorry unlighted-zero but I guess that even if someone would have given you all the POE info required to get both on the property and in the main factory, a good chunk of it is already gone. There's been a private thread about it for a couple of weeks now and judging that I was there in November and there was no sign of demo, I'm assuming that it's going to be gone pretty fast.

Neither of those places is actively accessible and both are partially patrolled by security. I mean if you're so hard up for something to explore that you want to run that risk, I guess they can be considered places to go... but I don't think most people are. As far as completely abandoned buildings go there is pretty much nothing left here. If you're into infiltrating active buildings and roofs however, you might find a good few things.
