|  | | | These well known ruins are at a turning point it seems. I was not lucky enough to get in before it was stripped down a few years back...pics of that can be found in the LDB. However, my most recent pass by about 2-3 weeks ago reveals that the repurposing might be moving into high gear...or at the least they are preparing to do something. I had heard it was to become a restaurant. Being in the middle of the grounds of an active mall, it would make sense. The obvious ways in are now re-sealed. I always enjoyed scooting in and taking some shots...the sole remaining mechanical artifact has a steampunk-like design to it...very cool. Anyways, here's some shots from inside the walls taken over about three years. It might look very different in the near future. At the least it looks like it won't be demolished!

| | | | Really like number 9. Something about those wood / steel truss combinations are great. They demonstrate a time when steel was only used when needed and labour to build these trusses were inexpensive. Similar in design to the steel reinforced wood trusses of old BCATP hangars https://www.crhp-r...edImages/70817.jpg, they were made of mostly wood mainly due to a shortage of steel during the war though.

| | | | Thanks and thanks for the info! It would seem from my digging that this location had it's founding in 1847. It appears out of place there now...the rest of the old factory has been converted to pretty nice retail space, and the exterior retains it's charm. This last remnant is right in the middle of the space surrounded by the mall. As I said a few weeks back I noticed measures had been taken to seal it up a bit better, and I'm wondering if they are now going to actually do something with it. So glad they aren't just razing it to the ground.

| | | | Thanks! Yeah, I don't know what it was for (they at one time manufactured turbines and engines, so...) but I must have taken 50 pics of it over time. It's such a fascinating piece of machinery. I've attached a link to the history of the site and the many hands the business passed through over time.
