Build at the beginning of last century, 1 000 000+ ft.sq lot was home of the Singer sewing machine factory. In the huge complex, sewing machines were built from A-Z including the wooden base for it. The plant hired more than 3000 persons, and the whole local community was living from the cash flow of the factory. A cloth manufature was on the next lot to the Singer. In the 1950s union gave a hard time to the Singer factory with a strike. In 1986, the factory closed and the whole complex was left to himself. Some part were destroyed like the boiler room building, some others like the shipping docks were transformed into commercial locals. A part of the building is now a sport center, the cloth factory across the street is now divided into many different community actions.

Some, but more since 2001 as the city wants it to be converted into residential area. The factory next to the main building is being sold as condos and lofts... not original.
Should be converted into residential and commercial purpose by 2005.
