Before it was a Big Bear, the store itself was two stores under on roof. A normal Big Bear store, and Harts corner. Penn Traffic Bought out Harts and totally gutted the two stores and made them one. Big Bear became Big Bear Plus. Unable to compete with such stores as Kroger, Super Walmart, and the like. Penn Traffic filed for chapter 11 protection, liquidating all of its assets as far as Big Bear was concerned.
Before this was a Big Bear Plus or a Big Bear / Harts combo, this was a Sears department store. When the Huntington Mall opened, Sears moved to a new location as one of the mall's anchor stores.

St. Mary's Hospital has repurposed this location as a School of Nursing and Radiology. It is very much active.
